Mississippi 6, Birmingham 4
Spencer Adams didn’t miss many bats in his second start with Birmingham and the Barons fell on Thursday. Adams allowed six runs (four earned) on ten hits and one walk while striking out four. The White Sox have been tinkering with Adams (our in-person scouting report) and his Birmingham struggles were likely expected.
Shortstop Eddy Alvarez‘s game was a mixed bag, he went 2-5 with a stolen base, but also struck out three times and committed his 21st error. Third baseman Trey Michalczewski hit his 8th home run of the season and has hit .271/.361/.447 on the road this year away from the notoriously pitcher-friendly Barons home park. Brady Shoemaker and Alfredo Gonzalez each added two hits in the losing effort.
Tyler Barnette will get the start as the Barons continue their series against the Braves.
Winston-Salem 9, Lynchburg 3
The Dash put eight runs on the board in the 4th inning and cruised to a victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats on Thursday night. Mason Robbins and Telvin Nash homered in the 4th inning as the Dash lineup battered around. Robbins in particular has been red hot recently, hitting .385/.398/.530 over the month of July.
Starter Zach Thompson pitched well, striking out five over seven innings and allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk.
Tanner Banks takes the mound on Friday as he looks to continue the Dash’s winning ways.
Kannapolis 2, Greensboro 1 (Game 1)
Alex Call went 2-3 and Antonio Rodriguez went 1-2 with a double to lead the Intimidators to a game one victory.
Starter Luis Martinez allowed one run on just three hits over five innings to earn the win.
Greensboro 4, Kannapolis 2 (Game 2)
The Intimidators held a 2-0 lead late in the game thanks to a scoreless outings from Jack Charleston and Tanner Mendonca but Mike Morrison allowed four runs to score in the top of the 6th.
First baseman K.J. Woods had a perfect night at the plate as he homered and walked twice. Second baseman Bradley Strong also homered and Alex Call went 1-3 with a walk as he continues to tear up the South Atlantic League since his promotion.
Jimmy Lambert will take the ball as the Intimidators face off against Greensboro on Friday.
AZL White Sox 8, AZL Angels 3
The AZL Sox ran wild as they cruised to a win over the AZL Angels. 2016 22nd round draft pick Joel Booker went 1-2 with two walks and swiped three bases to give him 21 stolen bases on 22 attempts this season. Shortstop Luis Curbelo added two more stolen bases (his first two of his pro career) and first baseman Felix Mercedes went 2-3 with a double to lead the offense.
Former outfielder Louie Lechich is now starting over as a pitcher and made his debut on the mound with a scoreless inning. Reliever Matt Foster threw two perfect innings and struck out four batters. Foster has a sparkling 1.26 ERA thus far in his first professional season.
