7/30/16 Recap: Sox affiliates swept

Columbus 11, Charlotte 2
Charlotte had another rough game to write home about that saw the offense and pitching falter. Jason Coats and Vinny Rottino each went 2-4, with Coats having an RBI. Jerry Sands had the other RBI for the team. Adam Engel continues to struggle post-promotion, going 1-5 and keeping afloat with a paltry .184 average.
On the pitching side Kameron Loe wasn’t too terrible – giving up four earned runs in 5.2 innings with five strikeouts against nine hits and one walk. But Terance Marin (2.1 IP) and Matt Purke (1 IP) each gave up three earned runs in relief, effectively burying the Knights.
Mississippi 5, Birmingham 4
The Barons just barely lost as they couldn’t find enough offensive support in this 12 inning game. The team got two RBIs from Courtney Hawkins, who was 2-6 with a double, and one from Eddy Alvarez‘ 0-3 night. Otherwise, Hunter Jones went 3-4 with a double and Joey DeMichele had a fun line of 1-3, with three walks.
James Dykstra took the mound for Birmingham and went four innings of three run ball. Brandon Brennan and Brian Clark combined for two perfect innings before Nolan Sanburn gave up one run in his three innings of work – to go with five strikeouts. Matt Cooper took the loss, giving up a walk off hit in the 12th.
Lynchburg 5, Winston-Salem 2
The Dash were fairly lackluster, just like the Knights. Gerson Montilla and Ryan Leonards led the way with 2-3 nights, Montilla driving in both of the team’s runs with his 11th home run. Landon Lassiter was 1-4 with a double and a walk.
Thad Lowry had an OK start – 6.2 innings with three runs and five strikeouts. His only big issue was he allowed two home runs. Connor Walsh and Ryan Riga each surrendered an earned run in the loss.
Greensboro 11, Kannapolis 2
Alex Call just keeps hitting as the outfielder went 2-4 with a double and both RBIs for the team. Bradley Strong was 3-4 with a double and a run scored. Antonio Rodriguez was 1-4 with a triple and K.J. Woods was 0-1, but with 3 walks.
Johnathan Frebis buried their hopes quickly, allowing eight earned runs in four innings pitched, with only three strikeouts. Alex Katz allowed two runs in his two innings of work and Ian Hamilton and Tanner Mendonca each struck out three in their brief work.
Billings 5, Great Falls 4
The Voyagers weren’t able to muster much offense on the day. Aaron Schnurbusch was 2-3 with a walk and an RBI. Brady Conlan and Corey Zangari each went 1-3 with RBIs of their own. Jameson Fisher went 0-3 as he returns from injury, but with two walks.
Bernardo Flores got the start and struck out six batters in six innings, but gave up four runs in the process. Jake Elliott took home the loss, giving up one run in his two innings of work.
