The Barons had the night off, Great Falls played two, and the Arizona League Sox game was suspended in the 4th inning.
Louisville 3, Charlotte 2
The Knights let this game slip through their fingers as the offense went 1-for-15 with RISP and all three Louisville runs were unearned. Starter Kameron Loe pitched well enough to win, but ended up with a no-decision (or a Quintana, as they are known in Chicago). Loe allowed one unearned run to score on four hits and one walk over 5.1 innings while striking out six. Reliever Juan Minaya was saddled with the loss by giving up another unearned run over his 2.1 innings. Minaya has been a good pickup for the Sox since he was acquired from the Astros on June 22nd, posting a 2.50 ERA with 20 strikeouts over 18 innings.
Leury Garcia led the offense from the lead-off spot, going 3-5 with a double. Nicky Delmonico went 2-3, walked, and stole a base and Adam Engel went 1-4.
Chris Volstad will start the rubber match of the series on Thursday.
Winston-Salem 15, Carolina 7
The Dash offense exploded for three home runs, sixteen hits, and eleven (!) walks to trounce the Carolina Mudcats on Wednesday. 1B Telvin Nash went 3-5 with two doubles, a home run, and a walk. Gerson Montilla and Marcus Davis also added home runs. Mason Robbins, who was just the subject of FutureSox feature article, went 4-6 with a double. A little bit of history was made by outfielder Landon Lassiter, as he was only the second Dash player to walk four times in a single game. He finished 1-2 and now has a .400 OBP over 18 games since his promotion to Winston-Salem.
The game was started by Tanner Banks on Tuesday, but since it was suspended, he was pulled for Thad Lowry to get the unusual “start” today. Lowry didn’t fare well, allowing five runs over 3.1 innings. Reliever Drew Hasler got the win thanks to 2.2 scoreless innings.
The Dash will play a doubleheader to make up for the game they were suppose to play Wednesday, with Robin Leyer getting the start in game 1 and Kelvis Valerio getting the ball in game 2.
Kannapolis 3, Hagerstown 2
Brannon Easterling spun six shutout innings and Alex Call and Seby Zavala provided just enough offense for the Intimidators to rally past the Hagerstown Suns. Easterling struck out six and only allowed three hits and two walks as he lowered his season ERA to 1.93. Alex Katz allowed two runs to score to give Hagerstown the lead, but Dylan Barrow and Ian Hamilton followed with scoreless appearances to secure the win.
Outfielder and 2016 3rd round draft pick Alex Call has been a revelation in his first professional season. White Sox fans moaned that he was a reach on draft day, but he is playing like a first rounder in Kannapolis, hitting .354/.415/.542 after smacked two more hits on Wednesday. Catcher Seby Zavala went 2-4 and drove in the go-ahead runs in the 8th inning.
Max Beatty has the honor of starting the series off as the Intimidators will host Lakewood on Thursday.
Great Falls 6, Ogden 1 (Game 1)
If you have the misfortune of being a Pioneer League hitter facing the Voyagers, Alec Hansen will find you, and he will strike you out. Hansen struck out ten batters over six innings, allowed just three hits, three walks, and an unearned run as continues his mastery of this level. Hansen has put up video games numbers thus far in his pro career, striking out 53 batters over his first 32.2 innings and just 12 (!) hits and 10 walks.
Aaron Schnurbusch and Corey Zangari homered in support of Hansen and Jameson Fisher went 2-2 with a double and a walk.
Ogden 9, Great Falls 4 (Game 2)
Game two left a lot to be desired, as starter Yosmer Solorzano suffered the worst start of his career, giving up nine runs over just 4.2 innings. However, Aaron Schnurbusch homered again and is hitting an absolutely insane .388/.492/.599 in his first taste of pro ball. FutureSox has not featured Schnurbusch yet, but the Great Falls Tribune has a great article on his early success.
Corey Zangari doubled in three tries and Anthony Villa went 2-3 with two doubles to pace the offense.
The Voyagers have Thursday off before traveling to Idaho Falls to start a series on Friday.
