Charlotte 5, Durham 1
David Holmberg and Zack Burdi combined to throw a gem against the Bulls. Holmberg went seven innings and only surrendered three hits and two walks against six strikeouts. The only run allowed was on a first-inning home run. Burdi then threw two no-hit innings that saw him strike out two batters and walk two.
On offense, Jerry Sands powered the Knights with a 3-4 evening that featured a three-run home run. Jacob May was 2-4 and stole his 12th base, Nicky Delominco was 1-3 with a double and a walk and Adam Engel was 0-3 with a walk as he continues to struggle adjusting to AAA.
Birmingham 3, Chattanooga 1
Spencer Adams and Brian Clark replicated their AAA counterparts in throwing a stellar game. Adams weent seven innings, only allowing an unearned run on four hits and two walks while he struck out four. Brian Clark went two innings, allowing one hit and striking out five.
On offense, Brett Lawrie helped the team in his rehab stint, going 2-3 with a double and two of the team’s three runs scored. In terms of more permanent Barons players, Trey Michalczewski went 1-3 with a walk and RBI and Chris O’Dowd went 1-2 with a double, walk and two RBIs. Eddy Alvarez was 1-4 with a walk.
Winston-Salem 7, Lynchburg 5
Zack Collins sat again as the Dash powered their way to victory off a balanced attack. Mason Robbins was 3-5 and now is hitting .320 as he scored two runs and had a double. Nick Basto went 1-4 with a two run homer. Cleuluis Rondon and Brett Austin both went 1-4 with an RBI (Austin had a triple). Finally Gerson Montilla and Marcus Davis threw in the other two RBIs from the Dash offense.
Tanner Banks had a textbook quality start – three runs in six innings on seven hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Drew Hasler got a hold after allowing only one run before Jacob Morris blew the save and sent the team to extras – but he ultimately got the win and he struck out five.
Lakewood 6, Kannapolis 1
The Intimidators got stomped by the Blue Claws as really no one had a great day. Antonio Rodriguez, Cody Daily and Grant Massey all went 1-3 with a single. Zach Remillard was 1-3 with an RBI double. That was all for the offense.
Pitching surrendered 14 hits on their way to loss. Jimmy Lambert and Danny Dopico each gave up 3 three runs in 2.1 innings pitched. Mike Morrison threw 3.1 innings of scoreless ball and Dylan Barrow threw a perfect ninth.
Great Falls 7, Idaho Falls 6
Offense was the name of the game for the Voyagers, led by Jameson Fisher‘s three-run double. Brady Conlan was a big contributor by going 2-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Max Dutto (1-3, 2 BB) and Mitch Roman (2-3, 1 BB) each knocked in a run too. Aaron Schnurbusch‘s meteoric batting average came down a bit as the right fielder went 1-4 with a walk. They had been down 6-0 in this game at one point, before registering the big comeback.
Pitching-wise, Chris Comito would probably like to forget this game after surrendering six runs (five earned) in only four innings pitched with no strikeouts. Brandon Magallones went two perfect innings that saw him strike out three batters.
AZL Reds 9, AZL White Sox 3
Victor Done was lit up in his start for the AZL team as he gave up seven runs (six earned) in a scant 3.2 innings pitched where he allowed four walks and four hits but did strike out four. Carlos Diaz then allowed two runs of his own – on three hits and walks in his 1.1 innings of work. Eriberto Percel threw three scoreless inning and Brandon Agar threw a perfect ninth in vain.
On offense, Louis Silverio and Sam Dexter provided all of the runs off of a solo shot and two run homer, respectively. Dante Flores had the only multi-hit game, going 2-4.
