Gwinnett 9, Charlotte 4
After the Knights seized the International League Southern Division lead with their win yesterday, the Gwinnett Braves took it back with a convincing win Wednesday. Recently promoted Tyler Barnette got the start and pitched fairly well, striking out six over six innings and allowing four runs. However, reliever Juan Minaya had a meltdown in the 7th inning, allowing four runs to score while only managing to record one out.
The offense was held to four hits, but was efficient, scoring four runs. Leury Garcia led the way once again, going 1-2 with a double and two walks. Garcia has been on fire recently, hitting .400/.488/.629 during the month of August.
David Holmberg will get the ball on Thursday as the Knights attempt to take the division lead back from the Braves.
Jackson 6, Birmingham 1
After so much pre-season hype, the extremely disappointing season continues for the Birmingham Barons. Starter Jordan Guerrero allowed six runs on ten hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. Guerrero has slid backwards from his promising 2015 season, posting a 4.83 ERA and a career high 4.8 BB/9 rate.
The Birmingham bullpen was excellent in relief, as the combination of Euclides Leyer, Andre Wheeler, and Conor Krauss allowed one hit over 3.1 scoreless frames.
The Barons will try to regroup on Thursday as southpaw Blair Walters will take the hill.
Myrtle Beach 6, Winston-Salem 5
Starter Jordan Stephens had not allowed an earned run in the first inning all season until Wednesday night. Stephens was touched up for three runs in the first, but settled down to only allow one more run over five innings of work.
The Dash offense made a 9th inning rally that fell just short, as the tying run was gunned down at the plate. Third baseman Gerson Montilla led the offense by going 3-5 and Zack Collins went o-2 with two walks.
Tanner Banks will make the start on Thursday as the series against Myrtle Beach continues.
Kannapolis 9, Greenville 2 (14 innings)
The Intimidators pitching was fantastic and the offense awoke with a seven run 14th inning to take a strange game. Starter Max Beatty went seven strong innings, allowing just one run on two hits and no walks. After Mike Morrison allowed an unearned run to score, the bullpen locked down, tossing six consecutive scoreless frames. Louie Lechich (0.2 IP), Ian Hamilton (2.2 IP), and Danny Dopico (2.0 IP) all contributed to the effort.
Third baseman Zach Remillard went 3-5 with a home run in possibly his best game as a pro. Danny Mendick went 3-7 with two doubles and Bradley Strong went 2-2 after he entered the game as a pinch runner.
Luis Martinez will get the start on Thursday as the Intimidators hope to continue their good play of late. Kannapolis is just a game out of first place for the division lead.
Ogden 5, Great Falls 2
Great Falls starter Bernardo Flores struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings, but also allowed three runs to score as he took the loss. Jameson Fisher, Aaron Schnurbusch, and Corey Zangari all posted an identical 1-4, 2B games.

AZL Cubs 15, AZL White Sox 7
The AZL Sox offense pounded out ten hits, but the pitching was roughed up as the Sox were routed by the Cubs. UDFA Trevin Sonnier led the way by going 3-4 with a home run while outfielder Jake Fincher went 2-4 with a double, a walk, and a stolen base. Fincher, a 2015 29th round pick, missed the majority of 2015 and 2016 thanks to orbital fracture from being struck in the face with a pitch. Fincher has six hits in his first ten at bats since coming off the DL for the Sox.
