The Charlotte Knights and the Winston-Salem Dash were rained out and the rest of the affiliates were swept away by the competition.
Jackson 8, Birmingham 1
The offense had eight hits and five walks, but went 1-for-12 with RISP as the Barons were no match for the Jackson Generals on Thursday. Starter Blair Walters was lit up for seven runs over 3.1 innings, but the bullpen stepped up and finished the game with minimal damage. Reliever Colin Kleven tossed 2.2 shutout innings and was followed by Brian Clark who threw two perfect innings. Clark has been basically untouchable in Birmingham, compiling a 1.16 ERA with just 7 walks and 42 strikeouts over 46.2 innings.
First baseman Keon Barnum led the offense by going 2-4 with a double and an RBI.
Spencer Adams will try his luck against the fearsome Jackson lineup on Friday.
Greenville 2, Kannapolis 0
Kannapolis Starter Luis Martinez struck out a career high nine batters over five shutout innings while only allowing two hits and four walks. Martinez has been on a hot streak recently, posting a 1.59 ERA over his last four starts.
Kannapolis only had four hits and of course Alex Call had one of them, as he went 1-3 with a walk. Call is hitting a cool .347/.413/.500 for the Intimidators.
Jimmy Lambert will toe the rubber as the Intimidators host the West Virginia Power on Friday night.
Ogden 10, Great Falls 6
The Voyagers actually outhit the Ogden Raptors 13 to 10, but fell on Thursday night. Starter Christopher Comito allowed six runs over five innings and it didn’t get much better for reliever Brandon Magallones and Lane Hobbs.
Aaron Schnurbusch (who was the topic of a interesting FutureSox piece) led the offense by going 3-5 with a double and a stolen base. Schnurbusch’s batting average hasn’t dipped below .369 since July 13th and is perhaps having one of the most prolific Pioneer League debuts in White Sox history. Joel Booker went 3-5 with a double and a stolen base himself and is also having a strong opening campaign, hitting .328/.426/. 448 over 14 games for Great Falls.
AZL Giants 6, AZL White Sox 0
White Sox starter Victor Done was stung for five runs in the 2nd inning which ended his evening. Reliever Jhoan Quijada came in and stuck out one batter over three perfect innings. Quijada, who pitched in two games in the DSL this year before making his debut with the AZL Sox, has only allowed one hit over his last 6.1 innings.
The AZL offense could only muster three singles, one each by Luis Curbelo, Amado Nunez, and Franklin Reyes.
