Alec Hansen impressed in his first outing with Kannapolis, continuing to shutdown hitters while keeping the free passes in check. Luis Ledo threw five no-hit innings in his first start for Great Falls and the offense had a solid night behind him. Charlotte lost in extras, despite strong offensive showings from Engel, May, Smith, and Coats.
Norfolk 7, Charlotte 6 (14 innings)
Kameron Loe gave up five runs on ten hits over six innings to erase what was an early lead for the Knights. Zack Burdi was a little wild over two innings with three walks, but gave up no earned runs and notched a pair of strikeouts. Blake Smith, Brad Goldberg, and Matt Purke covered five innings of scoreless ball in a game that went to extras. Tyler Barnette was saddled with a loss when he gave up the winning run in the fourteenth. Charlotte did its part on offense with Adam Engel leading the pack. Engel went 3-for-6 with two doubles. Kevan Smith and Jason Coats each went deep, the latter of which also added two walks. Jacob May whiffed three times, but went 2-for-6 with a triple.

Montgomery 6, Birmingham 0
Thaddius Lowry may have received the loss, but it wasn’t necessarily on his own accord. Lowry gave up three runs on five hits over seven innings, but also struck out eight while keeping walks at bay. Brian Clark put the game out of reach by giving up three earned runs and walking a batter without recording a single out. It was a quiet night for the Barons on offense. Hunter Jones went 2-for-3 and Courtney Hawkins went 1-for-4 with a double. Unfortunately for Lowry, that was about all the Barons could muster.
Nolan Sanburn was strong his last time out and will look to keep the good fortunes going in tomorrow’s start.
Carolina 7, Winston-Salem 1
Zach Thompson was credited with the loss despite a quality start. He worked his way through eleven hits to go 6.1 innings of three run ball, two of them earned. Ryan Riga struggled immensely later in the game, surrendering four runs on five hits over 1.1 frames. Mason Robbins went 1-for-3 with a walk, while Nick Basto added two walks of his own. Gerson Montilla got the Dash’s only RBI while Daniel Gonzalez‘s double served as their sole extra-base hit.

Kannapolis 6, Columbia 3
Baseball America came out in full force on Friday night to get a look at Kannapolis starter Alec Hansen, who has been drawing big attention in prospect circles with his hot start to pro ball. Hansen didn’t disappoint in his first start since his promotion. The right-hander didn’t quite notch a quality start, as he gave up three over five innings, but he did post six strikeouts to just two walks. Control plagued Hansen in college and he’s continued to have a positive K/BB ratio as a pro. The offense did its part to back him up. Jake Fincher went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Cody Daly and Bradley Strong had nearly identical lines, each going 2-for-4 with a double. Meanwhile, Tyler Sullivan added to the extra-base hit parade with a triple of his own.
Max Beatty will look to continue to pen his solid season for Kannapolis when he takes the mound tomorrow.
Great Falls 7, Helena 2
Luis Ledo threw five no-hit innings for the Voyagers in a game that saw him earn the win. He was a little wild with four walks, but limited the damage by keeping Helena hitless and striking out four in the process. It was Ledo’s first start since his promotion from the AZL. Mitch Roman collected four hits with an RBI. Anthony Villa and Max Dutto each went deep with two RBIs. Aaron Schnurbusch just continues to rake. The bulky outfielder went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.
The Voyagers starter is currently listed as TBD.
AZL White Sox 11, AZL Indians 5
Edinxon Arias earned the win for the AZL White Sox, giving up three earned runs over five frames. Arias padded his line with five strikeouts against three walks. On offense, the club had five extra-base hits. Trevin Sonnier went 3-for-5 with a double while Franklin Reyes also hit two-bagger. Jacob Cooper and Louis Silverio not only each had two hit evenings, but each turned in a triple as well. Felix Mercedes had the big blast of the night, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
