Spencer Adams threw a gem for the Barons as he and Matt Cooper shutout Tennessee. Adam Engel homered in Charlotte while Great Falls extended their winning streak to eight games behind a solid Aron McRee start and Frank Califano‘s bat.
Louisville 7, Charlotte 2
David Holmberg received the loss for Charlotte. He gave up four runs on six hits while falling victim to the long ball. Zack Burdi followed up Holmberg with his worst outing since coming to Charlotte. Burdi’s scoreless streak came to an abrupt end when the power reliever surrounded two earned runs on three hits over two frames. The Knights as a unit scraped together just five hits, but Adam Engel put them on the board with a two-run homer. The outfielder has bounced back from a slow start at Charlotte and is now hitting .353 over his last ten games.
Terance Marin will toe the rubber for the Knights in tonight’s contest.
Birmingham 3, Tennessee 0
The Barons shutout Tennessee and Spencer Adams played a big role. The righty has seen brighter skies lately and showed as much by turning in seven scoreless innings. Adams had more strikeouts (5) than hits (4) and didn’t allow a single free pass. Matt Cooper helped to ensure the shutout by throwing two innings of one-hit ball and racking up two strikeouts in the process. The Barons had just two hits but Tennessee’s defense helped them out in the runs department. As far as their sole earned run, that came courtesy of a Marcus Lemon home run.
James Dykstra is slated to start for the Barons this evening.
Great Falls 5, Billings 3
Aron McRee moved to 5-0 with the Voyagers behind a quality start that saw him give up just one run over 6.1 innings. Aaron Schnurbusch went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Brady Conlan added two RBIs with his own 1-for-4 night. Frank Califano was perfect, going 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored.
Yosmer Solorzano followed up an electric outing with a dud his last time out, so he’ll look to return to better fortunes with Great Falls in tonight’s match up.
