Louisville 2, Charlotte 1
The Knights offense was held to three hits and starter Kameron Loe‘s error allowed the two deciding runs to cross the plate as the Knights lost a frustrating game on Wednesday. Loe didn’t allow any earned runs over five innings, and gave up four hits and two walks. Reliever Brad Goldberg pitched a scoreless inning and now has tossed eight straight shutout frames and lowered his ERA with Charlotte to 2.96.
The Knights loss dropped Charlotte to a 1.5 games back with just five games left in the regular season. Chris Volstad will get the start on Thursday as the Knights start a three game series against Norfolk.
Tennessee 8, Birmingham 7
The Barons scored four late runs to make Tennessee sweat, but the early deficit was too much to overcome. Starter Thad Lowry was the recipient of some bad defense, and allowed seven runs (four earned) over three innings. Colton Turner, recently acquired from Toronto for Dioner Navarro, pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
The Barons offense launched three home runs and Trey Michalczewski led the charge by going 2-4 with a home run and a triple. The home run was Michalczewski’s 10th of the year, which matches his career high from the 2014 season. Keenyn Walker and Joey DiMichele also went deep in the losing effort.
Nolan Sanburn will get the start on Thursday as the Barons start a new series with Pensacola.
Winston-Salem 7, Salem 7 (Suspended)
The Dash’s game was suspended due to a rain in the 10th inning of their game on Wednesday. The Dash rocked Boston top pitching prospect Michael Kopoech for six runs and chased him before he could finish the first inning. Brett Austin crushed a grand slam to highlight the six run first inning. Catcher Zack Collins coaxed four walks and Michael Suiter went 2-5 with a double and a walk.
The game will resume where they left off on Thursday.
Kannapolis 6, Lakewood 1
Brannon Easterling fired seven shutout innings and Alex Call (who else?) doubled twice and drove in three runs to lead the Intimidators to the win. Easterling only allowed four hits and one walk while striking out five to cruise to the win.
Cody Daily went 2-3 with a double and a walk and Micker Adolfo doubled over four at bats.
Alec Hansen will make his second Kannapolis start on Thursday against Lakewood.
Great Falls 15, Billings 5
The Voyagers offense was relentless against the Billings Mustangs and Great Falls cruised to their franchise record tenth straight victory. The last time Great Falls had a ten game winning streak was in 1988 when they were the Great Falls Dodgers. Jameson Fisher, playing in left field for first time since injuring his shoulder on August 18th, blasted a long home run in the first inning. Fisher ended up going 2-4 with two walks, three RBI’s, and four runs scored. Catcher Casey Schroeder also went yard and went 3-5 with a home run and a double.
Starter Luis Ledo had a rough game, allowing five runs over 5.2 innings on eight hits and four walks.
The Voyagers now enjoy a comfortable six game divisional lead with only eight games left to play. Bernardo Flores will get the start on Thursday against Billings.
