Charlotte 3, Norfolk 0
Carson Fulmer continued his hot streak, throwing six shutout innings in the win. Fulmer allowed seven hits and two walks, but did strike out five. Fulmer has gone 2-0 in his last three starts and only allowed one run, so he could be in line to start taking some of James Shields‘ starts if the veteran righty doesn’t turn it around. Brad Goldberg got the save in the shortened first game of the double header.
On offense, Jason Coats led the way by going 2-3 with a double and two RBIs. Nicky Delmonico had the other RBI despite going 0-3. Slade Heathcott was 2-3 with a double and Jake Peter was 2-3 with a run scored.
Charlotte 7, Norfolk 2
David Holmberg contributed another solid start for the Knights, going five innings of two-run ball. While Holmberg allowed seven hits, he struck out three and allowed no walks. Blake Smith and Zack Burdi both threw perfect frames, with Burdi recording two strikeouts and bringing his ERA to a stellar 1.29
Coats again led the way, going 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Jerry Sands was 2-2 with a triple and recorded two RBIs. Adam Engel wand Jake Peter had the other RBIs for the team. Eddy Alvarez went 1-3 to bring his AAA average to .296.
Pensacola 6, Birmingham 2
Spencer Adams got the start for the Barons and only allowed two runs over 6.1 innings while he struck out four batters to no walks. Sadly, Andre Wheeler and Euclides Leyer each walked three and Leyer allowed four runs. Brandon Brennan allowed a hit in his 0.2 innings of work.
On offense, the Barons mustered plenty of hits but few runs. Chris O’Dowd, 1-4, had the only RBI. Trey Michalczewski went 2-4 with the only multi-hit game as the Barons had no extra base hits.
Carolina 9, Winston-Salem 4
Kelvis Valerio and Taylore Cherry got tattooed for five and four runs respectively, putting this game out of reach. Each struck out two. Brandon Quintero allowed no runs in 0.2 innings of work with one strikeout.
On offense, Nick Basto was 2-5 with an RBI. Zack Collins was 1-4 with a walk, RBI and strikeout. The first round pick currently has a stellar 20.3% walk rake, though he still has a 24.5% strikeout rate as well. Michael Suiter was 2-3 with an RBI and Toby Thomas had the last RBI, going 2-5 with a double.
Kannapolis 4, Delmarva 2
Alex Call had a rare hitless night – yet he still recorded his 18th RBI with a sac fly. Zach Remillard led the offense with a 3-4, two-double night with two runs scored and a stolen base. Micker Adolfo was 2-4 with a run scored and Antonio Rodriguez went 1-4 with the other RBI.
Luis Martinez picked up the win by going five innings and only allowing two runs on three hits and two walks, while striking out four. Ben Wright and Ian Hamilton each threw two shutout innings.
Great Falls 3, Missoula 2
Robust averages stayed high in Great Falls as as Joel Booker (2-4, BB, .336), Louis Silverio (1-4, .357), Jameson Fisher (2-5, .343) and Aaron Schnurbusch (2-3, .355) all continued to rake. Schnurbusch had the only two RBIs for the team in the 13 inning affair. Sam Dexter was 2-6 with a double and J.J. Franco was 1-5 with a double, the only other extra base hit. This was the Voyagers’ improbable 12th straight win.
Meanwhile Aron McRee dealt for the Voyagers, striking out eight batters over seven innings, only allowing two runs and one walk. Brandon Magallones struck out two in his scoreless inning, Ryan Hinchley struck out 1. Finally Adam Panayotovich had a herculean effort in the bullpen, striking out six in four innings of relief and only allowing one hit.
