In this all-star week edition of the White Sox Minor League News and Notes, player of the month honors have been handed out, OF Luis Robert gets injured and the White Sox sign two more international free agents. In addition, we will update you on the happenings, news, notes and transactions regarding the White Sox minor leaguers and affiliates.
Top Honors for June
With start of July, another round of monthly honors have been handed out for June. FutureSox handed out our monthly honors, choosing RHP Alec Hansen (0.78 ERA, 30 Ks in 23 innings) as the pitcher of the month and INF Danny Mendick (.324, 5 2Bs, 3 HRs) as the hitter of the month for June.
The White Sox also handed out monthly hardware, giving LHP Jordan Guerrero (1.23 ERA, 26 Ks in 36 2/3 innings) pitcher of the month honors, while OF Micker Adolfo (.267, 8 HRs, 8 2Bs) earned player of the month honors for the second straight month.
Other position player standouts for the month of June in the White Sox organization included C Seby Zavala (.288, 6 2Bs, 5 HR), OF Rymer Liriano (.302, 5 2Bs, 3 HRs) and SS Eddy Alvarez (.272, 6 2Bs, 1 3B, 1 HR). Other pitching standouts for June included RHP Jordan Stephens (1.14 ERA, 19 Ks in 23 2/3 innings), RHP Dane Dunning (1.47 ERA, 37 Ks in 30 2/3 innings), RHP Jimmy Lambert (1.84 ERA in 5 starts) and LHP Bernardo Flores (2.15 ERA, 27 Ks in 29 1/3 innings).

For the Record
- Charlotte posted a 3-4 week (39-49 overall, 15.5 games back) that included a three-game losing streak and three-game winning streak. RHP Reynaldo Lopez was 0-1 on the week in two starts, despite only giving up three runs over 12 innings. RHP Lucas Giolito pitched a complete game 1-0 shutout (2 Hits, 10 Ks in 7 innings) and the offense erupted for 16 runs on Friday against Louisville highlighted by a nine-run eighth inning. The Knights are off until Thursday due to the Triple-A all-star break before they open a four-game series at home against Gwinnett.
- Birmingham went 2-5 for the week (6-11 overall 2nd half, 7.5 games back) and sit in last place in the Southern League North Division. Highlights of the week included back-to-back wins by Guerrero (7 IP, 2 ER, 6 Ks) and RHP Spencer Adams (6 IP, 1 ER, 5 Ks). The Barons continue their four-game homestand versus Mobile, before heading to Biloxi for five games.
- Winston-Salem posted a 3-4 week (8-10 0verall 2nd half, 4 games back) and ended a seven-game losing streak before winning three of its next five games. The Dash set a BB&T Ballpark record for attendance on July 4, as 9,007 fans saw the Dash fall to Down East 7-6. Collins, Medick, Zavala and OF Luis Basabe all homered during the week. W-S concludes its home series with Carolina before departing for four games at Myrtle Beach and three games at Lynchburg.
- Kannapolis turned in a 4-3 week (8-10 overall 2nd half, 3 games back) and currently sits in fourth place in the South Atlantic North Division. First round pick Burger collected three hits in his debut for the Intimidators. The I’s are currently on a four-game winning streak and finish their home series with Hagerstown before heading to Greenville and Columbia for three games apiece this week.
- Great Falls struggled with a 2-5 week (8-13 overall, 5 games back) and sit in last place in the Pioneer League North. After playing in several close games throughout the week, the Voyagers ended the week with a 19-2 drubbing at the hands of Billings. Ninth round draft pick OF Craig Dedelow leads the team in batting average (.324), home runs (4) and stolen bases (3). The home series continues with Billings before a day off and then seven more home games against Orem and Grand Junction.
- The AZL White Sox went 2-4 for the week (5-7 overall). 2017 draft picks Skoug and Taylor have been added to the active roster.
- The DSL White Sox have an overall record of 12-18. Robert leads the team in stolen bases (8) but will miss several games due to injury.
In Case You Missed It
- Three White Sox prospects made appearances in the Futures Game yesterday, and there was even an intra-org showdown of sorts where Michael Kopech struck out Yoan Moncada on a 101 mph fastball. Kopech threw a scoreless frame, Moncada went 0-2, and Zack Collins struck out in his lone plate appearance.
- Robert suffered a minor meniscus injury during a steal attempt in Dominican Summer League action.
- Having now passed the 2017 Amateur Draft signing deadline, the White Sox draft is complete. They signed all of their top 34 picks, as well as the 37th rounder, leaving just five unsigned. None of the players who did not sign were a surprise. You can look at the final breakdown in our Tracker.
- The Tribune’s Colleen Kane and the Sun Times’ Daryl Van Schouwen both caught up with Zack Collins to get his reaction on being selected to the Futures Game to be held in Miami.
- Recent draft pick and Libertyville grad Evan Skoug is ‘thankful’ to sign with the White Sox.
