In this post-season edition of the White Sox Minor League News and Notes, Kannapolis and Great Falls are in search of league titles, Michael Kopech picks up more post-season honors and OF Eloy Jimenez says, ‘I’m Ready’. In addition, we will update you on the rest of the happenings, news, notes and transactions regarding the White Sox minor leaguers and affiliates.
Playoffs
Only two of the White Sox affiliates have advanced to the post-season, but both Kannapolis and Great Falls look poised to bring home league titles.
The Intimidators playoff opener last Wednesday was postponed due to inclement weather, but that didn’t deter Kannapolis, as they easily discarded Greensboro from the playoffs with wins on Thursday (4-0) and Friday (3-1) in the best-of-three series.
Kannapolis starters Luis Martinez and Blake Hickman only allowed one run on four hits in 10 combined innings over the two games. The I’s bullpen was even stingier in the series, as they combined for 14 strikeouts in eight innings of work, while only allowing one hit.
The I’s continue their quest for a South Atlantic League title as they open the best-of-five series at home against the Greenville Drive on today. RHP Yelmison Peralta is the scheduled Game 1 starter for Kannapolis.
Great Falls finished their regular season with a four-game series split with Missoula on Saturday. The two teams came right back on Sunday to begin the Pioneer League Division Series playoffs. Great Falls earned the victory in Game 1 of the best-of-three series 7-4. RHP Chris Comito got the win, while C Nate Nolan and 3B Anthony Villa each homered Sunday night. Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) will be played tonight and Tuesday at Missoula.

For the Record

  • With the recent promotions of Volstad and Alburquerque to Chicago, the Knights sent 22 players to the White Sox during the 2017 season. Charlotte Head Groundskeeper Matt Parrott has been named the 2017 International League Sports Turf Manager of the Year as selected by managers and pitching coaches from the IL. Parrott just completed his second season as the Knights’ head groundskeeper.
  • The Barons named Michael Kopech as the 2017 Barons Pitcher of the Year, while Jake Peter was named the Barons Player of the Year. Kopeck was 8-7, with a 2.87 ERA and 155 Ks in 22 starts for the Barons before being promoted to Charlotte. Kopech was previously named the Southern League’s pitcher of the year and post-season all-star. Peter played 75 games for the Barons before being promoted to Charlotte in July.  During his time in Birmingham, Peter hit .270 with four home runs and 21 RBI. In 120 combined games, Peter hit .279 with 13 home runs and 49 RBI.
  • For the third time since 2010, the Dash finished the season with the highest overall attendance of the 30 Class-A advanced teams as 304,607 fans walked through the turnstiles of BB&T Ballpark in 2017. Winston-Salem had 14 sellout crowds during the season and a ballpark record 9,007 fans attended the Fourth of July game.
