Dan Santaromita

1. LUIS ROBERT (OF)
2. MICHAEL KOPECH (RHP)
3. ANDREW VAUGHN (1B)
4. NICK MADRIGAL (2B)
5. DANE DUNNING (RHP)

The top four was unanimous so I’ll skip discussing that. Dunning at No. 5 is because I think he can be a solid MLB starter and is close to the majors. It’s just a matter of returning to full strength after Tommy John surgery.

6. ZACK COLLINS (C)
7. JONATHAN STIEVER (RHP)
8. LUIS ALEXANDER BASABE (OF)
9. MATTHEW THOMPSON (RHP)
10. ANDREW DALQUIST (RHP)

Admittedly, I’m finding it hard to justify Collins and Stiever the more I look at it. Stiever had such a great second half of the season, but still does need to show more in 2020. I believe in Collins’ bat at the big league level. He has the plate discipline and the power to find some value. His stint with the White Sox last year showed he still has a ways to go though.

As for Basabe, I still believe in his tools. He just has to stay healthy. Hopefully we see what a healthy Basabe can do in 2020.

11. GAVIN SHEETS (1B)
12. MICKER ADOLFO (OF)
13. LUIS GONZALEZ (OF)
14. BLAKE RUTHERFORD (OF)
15. YOLBERT SANCHEZ (SS)

Four of these guys struggled in Double-A last year. Sheets was the only one who showed a genuine turnaround. As far as sheer value, he is starting to look like a likely big leaguer. He just doesn’t have much of a future with the White Sox. Jose Abreu just signed a new deal, Andrew Vaughn is coming and there are plenty of long-term DH candidates on the big-league roster. Sheets is ripe for a midseason trade. When it comes to Adolfo, Gonzalez and Rutherford, it’s a matter of how much do you dock them for how 2019 went.

16. JIMMY LAMBERT (RHP)
17. TYLER JOHNSON (RHP)
18. IAN HAMILTON (RHP)
19. ZACK BURDI (RHP)
20. KONNOR PILKINGTON (LHP)

A few relievers in this group. All of them missed some time last year, too. Hamilton had a touch luck 2019 with two non-playing injuries. I think a healthy Hamilton is the most likely of the group to be an MLB reliever. Burdi has the highest upside, but who knows if his stuff will return post-surgery. On top of that, Burdi’s control even before the surgery was worrying.

21. BRYCE BUSH (OF)
22. BERNARDO FLORES (LHP)
23. BRYAN RAMOS (3B)
24. JOSE RODRIGUEZ (SS)
25. JAKE BURGER
(3B)

There are some fun names here. I’m one of Bush’s biggest fans (heh). He had such an impressive debut summer in 2018, proving himself in both levels of rookie ball with good walk and strikeout rates. He struggled in full season ball, but that’s not a surprise given his age. He has a violent swing, but a good eye. Some refinements in his swing could prime him for a breakout season. Ramos is similar to Bush, but a year behind him. The 17-year-old Cuban probably deserved more love on our list (I had him higher than anyone else), but went straight to the U.S. for his pro debut (which speaks to what the White Sox think of him) and held his own.

26. DANNY MENDICK (SS)
27. DJ GLADNEY (3B)
28. LENYN SOSA (SS)
29. ALEC HANSEN (RHP)
30. JAMES BEARD (OF)

I’m holding onto hope for Hansen. Sure, his command was a total disaster in Birmingham, but he still has good stuff. If he can find anything near that 2017 form again, he’s got a good shot to be an MLB reliever. He was a borderline top 100 prospect two years ago. At the backend of an organization top 30 list, I’d take that resume over some fringy prospects with mediocre tools and/or production. At least Hansen has upside.
