White Sox select JuCo RHP Adisyn Coffey in third round

Continuing the theme of stockpiling arms, the White Sox selected right-hander Adisyn Coffey out of Wabash Valley College in the third round of the 2020 MLB Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Muncie, Ind. product was also a shortstop coming out of high school and played on the White Sox Area Code team. He was under the radar, not ranked on the draft board by Baseball America, Fangraphs, MLB Pipeline, and ESPN.

Coffey began his collegiate career at Arizona State, but transferred to San Jacinto Junior College after a lack of playing time. Coffey then transferred to Wabash Valley CC and has recently committed to play at Louisville. He was expected to be in the bullpen for the Cardinals.

On the mound, Coffey’s athleticism stands out and his fastball is anywhere from 93-96 mph while also mixing in a slider. Although he has past experience playing the field, his future is projected to be on the mound.

This pick was likely made to ensure slot savings that will be used towards securing Jared Kelley’s services. The slot value of the 83rd pick is $733,100.
