A FutureSox welcome: Tori Rubinstein

Hello there! I’m Tori, and I’m absolutely elated to be the newest contributor at FutureSox.

I was born in 1995 to a family of three girls and one absolutely gutted father who had no choice but to groom his youngest daughter into a sports fanatic. I was too young to remember the Michael Jordan era, so the 2005 White Sox were my first great Chicago sports team. Every day after school, I burst through the door to find out who won the afternoon game. Every night, my dad and I played “Sox trivia,” where he quizzed me on players and team history. The White Sox eventually became World Series champions, and I became a South Sider for life.

Today, I’m just a 25-year-old with an addiction to baseball, boy bands and good grammar, and I couldn’t be more excited to join a team where I can put two out of three of those interests to good use. Don’t worry — all boy band commentary will be left at the door.

In a year that’s been less than stellar, the 2020 White Sox meant a lot to me. It may seem trivial to care so much about a baseball team while the world around us crumbles in chaos, but I actually think it’s the opposite. After all of the loss, struggle and anxiety we’ve felt this year, it matters that we know celebration and joy are still possible. And if the White Sox can put together their first winning season in eight years in the middle of a pandemic, then maybe there’s hope for the rest of us this year, too.

Thank you for welcoming me to the team. I can’t wait to interact with you and talk about the future of White Sox baseball because, as 2020 has taught us, things can only go up from here.

Tori most recently was a part of the NBC Sports Chicago team, where she spent a lot of her time in the digital media department.
