Romy Gonzalez continued to terrorize Double-A pitching and Caberea Weaver posted standout figures in Low-A Kannapolis’ series against Carolina (MIL) to earn the highlight spots in the FutureSox Team of the Week for the period of June 7-13, 2021.
Here’s a look at the full lineup:
Catcher — Carlos Perez (Double-A) — 5 G, .250/.318/.300, 2B, 4 RBI, R
- Double-A catcher Carlos Perez reached base seven times in five games for the Barons in their series against Montgomery (TBR). The 24-year-old from Venezuela posted four RBI in the five-game stretch, which included a bases-clearing double in the first inning of Birmingham’s loss Thursday night.
First baseman — Ti’Quan Forbes (Double-A) — 5 G, .364/.364/.636, 4 2B, 3B, 4 RBI, 3 R
- Former second-round pick Ti’Quan Forbes doubled twice and recorded the fifth four-hit game of his professional Sunday to catapult him into the weekly honor at first base. Forbes, an original Texas Rangers selection whom the White Sox acquired in 2017 in exchange for Miguel Gonzalez, logged five extra-base hits throughout the week.
Second baseman — Yolbert Sanchez (Hi-A) — 5 G, .412/.444/.471, 2B, RBI, R
- White Sox No. 17 prospect Yolbert Sanchez collected three hits, including a double, in Hi-A Winston-Salem’s loss Sunday to raise his batting average in June to a stellar .405 mark. The 24-year-old middle infielder hit safely in four of his five games over the past week, which included a pair of multi-hit efforts.
Third baseman — DJ Gladney (Low-A) — 5 G, .368/.429/.632, 2 2B, HR, 5 RBI, 3 R
- White Sox No. 18 prospect DJ Gladney delivered his strongest week of the season to earn the nod at the third base slot. The 19-year-old struck a 423-foot blast with a 107 mph exit velocity in Thursday’s win for Low-A Kannapolis and posted an impressive .328 clip at the plate throughout the week.
Shortstop — Romy Gonzalez (Double-A) — 5 G, .238/.333/.810, 4 HR, 5 RBI, 6 R, SB
- What more is there to say about Romy Gonzalez’s stellar start to the Double-A season? The unranked infielder continues to produce across the board in his first year at the level. He crushed four home runs within a three-game span to close the week and stole his team-leading eighth base of the season. Gonzalez matched his single-season best mark of 10 home runs set in 2018 with Rookie-level Great Falls.
Outfield — Craig Dedelow (Double-A) — 5 G, .304/.304/.522, 2 2B, HR, 5 RBI, 5 R
- Double-A outfielder Craig Dedelow extended his hit streak to six games by recording at least one base knock in all five appearances against Montgomery (TBR). The 26-year-old Munster, Indiana, native added five RBI and scored five runs throughout the week to earn one of the three outfield spots.
Outfield — Caberea Weaver (Low-A) — 6 G, .444/.600/.833, 2 2B, 3B, HR, 4 RBI, 6 R
- Caberea Weaver’s resurgence continued into the second week of June as the 21-year-old outfielder posted a standout .444/.600/.833 slash line to help guide Low-A Kannapolis to a series split against Carolina (MIL). Weaver, 21, started all six games in the series and raised his batting average by 50 points during the six-game stretch.
Outfield — Micker Adolfo (Double-A) — 5 G, .261/.320/.565, 4 2B, HR, 3 RBI, SB
- White Sox No. 6 prospect Micker Adolfo ripped four doubles across the final three games of Double-A Birmingham’s series against Montgomery (TBR) to find his way to the Team of the Week lineup for the second time. The 24-year-old Dominican outfielder owns a .849 OPS this season, which tops his single-season high of .833 set back in 2018 with Hi-A Winston-Salem.
Starting pitcher — Andrew Dalquist (Low-A) — W, 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
- White Sox No. 5 prospect Andrew Dalquist delivered his top performance as a pro with a five-inning, two-hit outing against Carolina (MIL) in which he struck out seven Mudcats. The 20-year-old right-hander, whom the White Sox selected in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft, threw 43 of his 69 pitches for strikes and earned his first win of the season.
Relief pitcher — Luke Shilling (Hi-A) — 2 G, SV, 4.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K
- Hi-A reliever Luke Shilling provided the Dash with two dominant relief efforts to garner the Relief Pitcher of the Week honor. Nine of the 12 outs he recorded came via strikeouts. The University of Illinois product earned the save in Winston-Salem’s win Tuesday against Greenville (BOS) and did not allow a hit or run in his two appearances.
