Goodyear, AZ – It was a tough start for the ACL White Sox, who struggled to get anything going offensively through the first three innings. The club put a pair of runners on via a walk and an error, but that was all they were able to string together. They were hitless going into the fourth inning and every ball they put in play was mostly weak contact.
It seemed like it was going to be a long night at the plate for the ACL White Sox. That is, until everything completely changed in the fourth inning. The ACL White Sox would go from being hitless and shutout, to piling on eight runs. Their fourth inning rally proved to be enough to secure the win.
Terrell Tatum got the rally started by drawing a walk and easily stealing second base. Shawn Goosenberg drove in Tatum on a single, after Tatum reached third on a ground out from Jayson Gonzalez. Adam Hackenberg would follow that up with a single of his own, driving in Goosenberg in and giving the White Sox a 2-1 lead. It was fun to see the team fight back, but it was even more exciting to see this rally start with members of the 2021 draft class.
The ACL White Sox wouldn’t stop after the two runs. Logan Glass kept things going by taking an inside fastball down the line for a two-run double. Glass had an impressive night overall. He drove in two runs and played strong defense in left field. He saw a lot of action in left throughout the game and made all his opportunities look routine.
Following the Glass double, Edwin Peralta and Colson Montgomery both got hit by a pitch to load the bases for Wilfred Veras. He put the exclamation mark on the rally by going deep to center field for a grand slam. Veras would collect two hits and a walk on the evening and drove in four runs.
Wilfred Veras has been swinging a hot bat for the ACL White Sox, even though his playing time has decreased with the new draftees being added to the roster. Veras is currently riding a five game hitting streak, where he’s had eight hits, three doubles, six RBI, two walks, and just one strikeout in 16 at-bats during that time.
Left-hander Tommy Sommer started for the ACL White Sox on Monday and put together a solid outing. He gave up a solo home run, but aside from that he threw a lot of strikes. Sommer picked up four strikeouts and no walks across three innings and the only hit he allowed was the solo shot.
The ACL Indians would bring it back to a one-run game in the ninth. However, the ACL White Sox did enough damage in the fourth to earn the victory in Goodyear on Monday night.
