White Sox top prospect Colson Montgomery concluded his first pro season in impressive fashion, while four additional Top 30 prospects found a spot in the final installment of the FutureSox Team of the Week.
Here’s a look at the full lineup for the period of Sept. 13-19:
Catcher — Colby Smelley (ROK, ACL) — 3 G, .417/.417/.583, 2 2B, 3 RBI, R
- Recent 13th-round selection Colby Smelley produced a four-hit game Tuesday to earn the Catcher of the Week honor. Smelley, whom the White Sox drafted out of Shelton State Community College, logged a pair of doubles in the 7-2 win. He also contributed two RBI in Monday’s 6-4 victory.
First baseman — Samir Dueñez (Hi-A) — 4 G, .231/.375/.538, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 3 BB, R
- Hi-A first baseman Samir Dueñez belted his sixth home run of the season, added four RBI and produced an impressive .913 OPS throughout the week to collect the weekly recognition at first base. Dueñez, 25, hit safely in seven of his final nine games of the season and posted eight RBI in that span, as well.
Second baseman — Bryan Ramos (Low-A) — 5 G, .333/.333/.714, 4 3B, 2 RBI, 5 R
- White Sox No. 11 prospect Bryan Ramos posted four triples and a .714 slugging percentage to earn the nod at second base for the third consecutive week. The 19-year-old infielder delivered five multi-hit efforts over the final 10 games of the season. Ramos ranked third in the Low-A East Division with 42 extra-base hits in his first go-around at a full-season affiliate.
Third baseman — Wilfred Veras (ROK, ACL) — 4 G, .500/.533/.786, 2 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, 4 R
- White Sox No. 30 prospect Wilfred Veras put on one final showcase in Arizona as the 18-year-old infielder tallied seven hits in a four-game stretch for the ACL White Sox. Veras, whom the White Sox signed in July 2019, produced a dynamic .389/.410/.611 slash line in the month of September, as well as a standout .949 OPS in his first season stateside (46 games). The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native recorded four separate four-hit games this season.
Shortstop — Colson Montgomery (ROK, ACL) — 4 G, .438/.438/.500, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R
- White Sox No. 1 prospect Colson Montgomery concluded his first taste of pro ball on a strong note with three multi-hit performances over his final four games for the ACL White Sox. Montgomery, whom the White Sox selected in the first round of the 2021 MLB Draft, logged a standout .396 on-base percentage through 26 games in Arizona, which included a .447 mark in the month of September. The 19-year-old shortstop hit safely in eight of the final nine games of the season.
Outfield — Mikie Mahtook (Triple-A) — 6 G, .304/.360/.870, 2B, 4 HR, 7 RBI, 5 R, SB
- Mikie Mahtook belted four home runs in Triple-A Charlotte’s season-ending series against Durham (TBR) to earn the first of three outfield spots in the FutureSox Team of the Week. Mahtook homered twice in the Knights’ 9-5 loss Saturday, which marked his third multi-homer game this season. The 30-year-old former Ray and Tiger paced Charlotte with 44 extra-base hits, 25 home runs, 60 RBI and a .543 slugging percentage this season, and also ranked second in stolen bases (7).
Outfield — Misael Gonzalez (Low-A) — 5 G, .333/.467/.750, 2 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 2 R
- White Sox No. 22 prospect Misael Gonzalez helped guide Low-A Kannapolis to a five-game sweep of Columbia (KC) after he posted a 1.217 OPS in the series. Gonzalez, 20, homered and collected four RBI in Friday’s 9-3 victory, and doubled in consecutive games to close the season.
Outfield — Tyler Neslony (Double-A) — 4 G, .308/.357/.923, 2 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 2 R
- Double-A outfielder Tyler Neslony continued his remarkable stretch at the plate with four extra-base hits and six RBI over the final week of the season. Neslony, whom the White Sox acquired from the Atlanta Braves on July 11, produced an unparalleled 203 wRC+ and 1.121 OPS in 38 games with the Barons. The former ninth-round selection out of Texas Tech homered in both halves of Friday’s doubleheader against Montgomery (TBR).
Starting pitcher — Andrew Dalquist (Low-A) — W, 5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
- White Sox No. 9 prospect Andrew Dalquist tossed five innings of one-hit ball and earned the win in one of his most-impressive starts of the season Friday night against Columbia (KC). The 20-year-old right-hander tossed 44 of his 72 pitches for strikes and did not allow a hit until the fourth. Dalquist, who held an unsightly 6.26 ERA through July 16, logged a respectable 3.70 ERA over his final 10 starts.
Relief pitcher — Anderson Severino (Triple-A) — 3 G, HLD, 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
- Triple-A reliever Anderson Severino extended his dominant stretch out of the bullpen with three scoreless appearances, which included one hold, in Charlotte’s final series of the season against Durham (TBR). Severino, who struck out six batters in four innings of work, produced a dynamic 14.73 K/9 rate in 10 outings with the Knights after he earned a promotion Aug. 24. The 27-year-old southpaw owned a stellar 0.77 ERA over his final 20 appearances this season.
