This series will recap the performances of each White Sox minor league affiliate throughout the previous week. Here is the 20th installment of the 2022 season.
Charlotte Knights (47-70)
Weekly Record: 4-2
The Daniel Palka-led Syracuse Mets came to Truist Field last week to take on the Knights. Charlotte had a sluggish start to the series, dropping two of the first three games, before going on to win the weekend games and take the series. The Knights are in last place and are 19 games back in the International League East Division.
The Knights offense dominated Mets pitching all week long. Charlotte ended the series with a .320/.402/.578 slash line and a .980 OPS. The Knights also scored 52 runs, had 66 hits in 206 at-bats, 11 doubles, no triples, 14 home runs, 26 walks to 43 strikeouts, and went 5-for-9 on stolen bases. Whereas Charlotte’s offense was outstanding, the pitching staff was most definitely not. The Knights had a team ERA of 6.83, a 1.85 WHIP, and a .323 Batting Average Against. They also allowed 49 runs (41 earned), 73 hits to 54 innings pitched, 27 walks to 61 strikeouts, hit three batters and allowed 12 home runs. Mark Payton: Mark Payton put a hurt on the ball all week long against Mets pitchers. The 30 year-old outfielder slashed .353/.500/1.059 for a 1.559 OPS, hit four home runs, eight RBI, scored eight runs, and had six hits in 17 at-bats.

Birmingham Barons (51-63)
Weekly Record: 4-2
First Half: 31-38
Second Half: 20-25
The Barons welcomed the Tennessee Smokies to town take take on the last “Project Birmingham“-less roster of the year. The Barons had a great start to the series, winning the first three games and securing one more win in the weekend batch to take the series. The Barons are in third place and five games back in the second half in the Southern League North Division.
The Barons offense got back on the right foot this week and was quite productive against the Smokies pitching staff. Birmingham slashed .279/.396/.457 for an .853 OPS. Additionally, the Barons scored 47 runs, had 55 hits in 197 at-bats, 11 doubles, no triples, eight home runs, 35 walks to 56 strikeouts, and went 6-for-8 on stolen bases. The Barons pitching staff had their third consecutive rough performance. Birmingham had a 5.88 team ERA, a 1.62 WHIP, and a .263 Batting Average Against. The Barons also allowed 34 runs (34 earned), 52 hits to 52 innings pitched, 32 walks to 68 strikeouts, hit two batters and allowed nine home runs. Jose Rodriguez: The power binge for Popeye continued against Tennessee pitching last week. The 21 year-old infielder slashed .444/.524/.944 for a 1.468 OPS, hit three home runs, nine RBI, scored six runs, and had eight hits in 18 at-bats.

Winston-Salem Dash (53-61)
Weekly Record: 1-5
First Half: 33-33
Second Half: 20-28
The Dash went to Hickory last week to take on the stream-less Crawdads, which turned out to be a good thing for Winston-Salem as they dropped five of six in the series. The Dash are in fifth place and 12 games back in the second half in the South Atlantic League South Division.
As one may be able to predict from the lackluster record for the week, the Dash offense was terrible against the Hickory pitching staff. Winston-Salem slashed .188/.286/.262 for a .548 OPS. The Dash also scored 19 runs, had 36 hits in 191 at-bats, three doubles, one triple, three home runs, 21 walks to 52 strikeouts, and went 7-for-7 on stolen bases. Echoing the sentiments of the previous paragraph, the Winston-Salem pitching staff stunk last week. The Dash had a team ERA of 8.82, a 2.02 WHIP, and a .318 Batting Average Against. Winston-Salem also allowed 50 runs (48 earned) on 62 hits over 49 innings, 37 walks to 48 strikeouts, hitting five batters and allowed six home runs. Alejandro Mateo: Well, someone had to take the honors for the week, and Alejandro Mateo wins by default. The 28 year-old had one appearance, throwing 1.1 innings allowing one hit, no runs, no walks, struck out three, and had a .167 Batting Average Against, and a 0.75 WHIP.

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (50-64)
Weekly Record: 2-4
First Half: 26-40
Second Half: 24-24
The Cannon Ballers paid a visit to the Columbia Fireflies last week. Unfortunately for Kannapolis, they couldn’t get much going until the weekend and dropped four of six games in the series. Kannapolis is in third place and six games back in the second half in the Carolina League South Division.
Kannapolis endured another tough offensive stretch last week at the hands of the Fireflies pitching staff. The Ballers scuttled to a .209/.310/.294 slash line for a .604 OPS. Kannapolis also scored 19 runs, had 42 hits in 201 at-bats, six doubles, one triple, three home runs, 27 walks to 65 strikeouts, and went 3-for-5 on stolen bases. The Cannon Ballers pitching staff was on par with last week’s performance, which wasn’t great. Kannapolis had a team ERA of 5.29, a 1.67 WHIP, and a .274 Batting Average Against. Additionally, the Ballers allowed 36 runs (30 earned) on 52 hits over 51 innings, issuing 33 walks against 33 strikeouts, while hitting three batters and allowing five home runs. Wes Kath: Wes Kath has now had back to back weeks as the Cannon Ballers most notable performer. The 20 year-old third baseman slashed .286/.375/.667 for a 1.042 OPS, hitting two doubles, two home runs, two RBI, scored five runs, and had six hits in 21 at-bats.

ACL White Sox (24-28)
Weekly Record: 3-1
Although one of their games was cancelled due to inclement weather, the ACL White Sox had a great week, winning three of four possible games. The ACL White Sox are tied for fourth place and eight games back in the ACL West.
The ACL Sox offensive squad rebounded some after a tough previous week. The club hit .254/.354/.377 for a .731 OPS. Additionally, the ACL White Sox scored 25 runs, had 35 hits in 138 at-bats, seven doubles, two triples, two home runs, 20 walks to 49 strikeouts, and went 5-for-6 on stolen bases. The ACL Sox pitching staff put up a similar line to their previous week. The staff concluded their week with a team ERA of 4.37, a 1.20 WHIP, and a .234 Batting Average Against. In addition, the staff was charged with 17 earned runs (17 runs allowed), 30 hits in 35 innings pitched, 12 walks to 41 strikeouts, hit no batters, and allowed five home runs. Chris Lanzilli: Chris Lanzilli had a great week at the dish for the ACL White Sox. The 24-year-old slashed .400/.500/.800 for a 1.300 OPS, hitting one double, one home run, four RBI, scored three runs, and had four hits in 10 at-bats.

DSL White Sox (30-26)
Weekly Record: 3-2
The DSL White Sox had another solid week, winning three of five possible games. The DSL Sox are in fifth place and seven and a half games back in the DSL San Pedro Division.
The offense stepped up this week to have a pretty solid performance overall. The White Sox hit .283/.413/.425 for an .838 OPS. In addition, the club scored 27 runs, had 34 hits in 120 at-bats, four doubles, two triples, three home runs, 19 walks to 27 strikeouts, and went 3-for-6 on stolen bases. As a whole the DSL White Sox pitching staff hit a minor bump in the road last week. The staff held a team ERA of 4.35, a 1.65 WHIP, and a .282 Batting Average Against. The DSL hurlers also allowed 15 earned runs to 22 runs allowed, 33 hits to 31 innings pitched, 18 walks to 31 strikeouts, hit four batters, and allowed one home run. Godwin Bennett: Godwin Bennett was outstanding yet again for the DSL White Sox. The 19-year-old slashed .571/.647/1.143 for a 1.790 OPS, hitting two doubles, two home runs, six RBI, scored six runs, and had eight hits in 14 at-bats.
