*Age listed in parenthesis
Bryan Ramos, 3B (21)
- Last played: AA Birmingham
Bryan Ramos looks like one of the best pieces in this farm system right now. The talented third baseman is a top-5 prospect in the system and has plenty of room for growth. Ramos was signed out of Cuba in 2018 and has shown impressive bat speed and plus power at every level so far. He turned 21 in March and is coming off an excellent 99 games at Winston-Salem in 2022. Ramos put up an .821 OPS with 19 home runs before finishing the season with ‘Project Birmingham.’
Wes Kath, 3B (21)
- Last played: AA Birmingham
Wes Kath was drafted 57th overall in 2021 and was viewed as a future big-league bat with a lot of projectable power. Last year, Kath showed off his strong pull-side slug and capable arm strength in low-A, clubbing 13 home runs and tallying 95 starts at the hot corner. The prep product posted a 109 wRC+ in his time at that level. While he walked in over 13 percent of his plate appearances, Kath must improve upon his 171 strikeouts in 112 games.
The then 20-year-old completed his first full professional season as part of ‘Project Birmingham’ where he was challenged. 2022 was a positive development year for a prospect who overcame struggles at the inception of of his professional career.
DJ Gladney, 1B/3B (22)
Last played: AA Birmingham
Another young bat with big power potential is the versatile DJ Gladney. As a local product that the White Sox drafted in 2019, Gladney showcased he is definsively flexible and has natural power at the plate. His 18 home runs and 65 RBIs in Low-A across 106 games show the promise of his bat. Although, much like Kath, strikeouts are the biggest issue, as he struck out over 30 percent of the time last year. Gladney played 75 games at first base, 33 games in right field and 13 in left field last season.
Victor Quezada, 3B (19)
Last played: Arizona Complex League
The youngest prospect on this list is Victor Quezada. He was signed for a bonus of over $500k and showed promise as a 17-year-old in the DSL during his first season in 2021. However, Quezada struggled in Rookie Ball last year as his strikeout rate was incredibly high and he only slashed .151/.256/.261 over his 36 games.
How does Gladney look in the OF?
Any thoughts on Wilfred Veras?
