Sean Burke
After a rough season debut in Louisville last week, Sean Burke rebounded nicely in his second start of the season, limiting a hot Norfolk club to just one run over four innings.
José Rodriguez & Jonathan Cannon
José Rodriguez played in one game last week before an apparent injury saw him land on the 7-day IL.
Coming off of a two start week, Jonathan Cannon was effective yet unspectacular in his lone start this past week, allowing eight base runners and three runs in 5.1 innings.
Matthew Thompson
Matthew Thompson had a two start week for the Barons and pitched well in both starts. Stats for the first start can be found below, as his second start he threw 4.1 innings of four hit ball, allowing two runs, struck out five and walking two. Thompson being able to cut down on the free passes was an encouraging development last week.
Cristian Mena
Cristian Mena yet again displayed fantastic stuff as his rise through the system continues. While Mena did allow two more base runners than his previous start, Tennessee hitters were waiving at his offerings, allowing him to punch out four more batters than his last start.
Peyton Pallette
Peyton Pallette built upon a strong previous start with another solid outing against Carolina. While he did walk two more batters, the broadcast did mention that his breaking stuff was reaching 3000+ RPM, which is encouraging as he’s building up his workload in his first professional season post surgery.
Best of the Rest
Carlos Perez & Nate Mondou
Carlos Perez had a good showing against Norfolk last week, batting .467/.500/.933 for a 1.433 OPS, scoring two runs, hitting one double, two home runs, and knocking in four RBI.
Nate Mondou batted .263/.391/.632 for a 1.023 OPS, three runs scored, one double, two home runs, and two RBI.
Sammy Peralta & Jared Kelley
The soon to be 25 year old Sammy Peralta pitched well in both of his appearances last week. The southpaw threw a total of four innings allowing only one hit, no walks, no runs, and struck out five.
Jared Kelley made his season debut and pitched two innings, allowing no hits or runs, walking one and striking out two
Taylor Snyder
Taylor Snyder had a solid week for the Barons. The 28 year old slashed .333/.333/.833 for a 1.166 OPS, four runs scored, one double, one triple, two home runs, and five RBI.
DJ Gladney
DJ Gladney was a one man wrecking crew for the Dash last week. The 21 year old infielder/outfielder crushed Crawdad pitchers to a .450/.476/1.100 line, a 1.576 OPS, scored five runs, hit one double, four home runs, and eight RBI. The power surge vaulted Gladney into a tie in the SAL for home runs (seven), the league leader in RBI (25), and seventh place in OPS (1.016) among qualified hitters.
Tim Elko & Logan Glass
After knocking two more home runs and seven RBI, 24 year old Tim Elko is now leading the Carolina League in home runs (six), RBI (25), and is sixth in OPS 1.030 among qualified hitters.
Logan Glass also knocked three doubles and ended the week with a .971 OPS across four games last week.
Shane Murphy & Billy Seidl
22 year old southpaw Shane Murphy had another strong start for the Ballers last week. Murphy threw five innings, allowing four hits, one run (one earned), no walks, and struck out five Mudcats.
Billy Seidl has been functioning as the Cannon Ballers closer and has been nearly unhittable. In two appearances last week, the 23 year old righty threw 2.1 innings, notched one save, allowed one hit, one walk, and struck out five.
