Noah Schultz
Noah Schultz made his second start with Kannapolis and consistently induced weak contact against Lynchburg. While the strikeouts weren’t there in this start, Schultz was efficient in his two innings of work, facing the minimum.
Colson Montgomery & Norge Vera
Both players were sent to the ACL White Sox on rehab assignments, but both players did not appear in a game last week.
Bryan Ramos
Lots didn’t go well for the Barons offense last week, Ramos included. The 21 year old still got on base a third of the time, leading the team in OBP for the week.
José Rodriguez
José Rodriguez was activated of the temporary inactive list and while only appearing in three games, he lead the charge offensively in what was a down week for the Barons. Rodriguez was also 3-for-3 in stolen bases, displaying the base stealing ability we’ve grown accustomed to from the 22 year old.
Peyton Pallette
Peyton Pallette’s start began well, setting down the first six Hillcats in order. The third inning is where the 22 year old righty endured some struggles, allowing two runs and three baserunners in the frame.
Oscar Colás
After looking like he was breaking out of the rut he was in, Oscar Colás had a lackluster week at the dish against Gwinnett. Four singles (and two walks) across five games leaves something to be desired at the plate for the 24 year old.
Sean Burke
Sean Burke walked as many as he struck out and had three longer innings (first, second, fifth) than efficient ones (third, fourth) against the Stripers. The fifth was the roughest inning by far for the 23 year old, allowing four of his six hits and three of five runs in the frame.
Cristian Mena
Cristian Mena was more of his usual self in this start against Chattanooga. Mena displayed his swing and miss stuff while limiting walks (both allowed in the seventh before getting pulled) and throwing 68% of his pitches for strikes.
Best of the Rest
Edgar Navarro
Edgar Navarro pitched well in both of his appearances last week for the Knights. The 25 year old right hander threw three innings allowing zeroes across the board while striking out five.
Declan Cronin
25 year old right hander Declan Cronin was also outstanding out of the pen for the Knights. Cronin made three appearances throwing four total innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two.
Tommy Sommer
24 year old southpaw Tommy Sommer seems to be finding his groove in AA. The 2021 10 round pick has allowed two runs or less in all of his starts for the Barons (one appearance where he allowed four runs was in relief). The free passes need to be ironed out (18 in 31.2 IP in AA), but Sommer is certainly trending in the right direction.
Caberea Weaver
Caberea Weaver was simply outstanding against Bowling Green last week. The 2018 seventh rounder batted .462/.533/.923 for a 1.456 OPS, four runs scored, two home runs, eight RBI, and went 2-for-2 on stolen bases.
Michael Turner
Find something you love as much as Michael Turner loves getting on base. The 24 year old catcher walked seven times (to three strikeouts) en route to a .524 OBP and a .953 OPS last week. Turner now sports an 18.1 BB% to a 18.8 K% for the season.
Jeremiah Burke & Chase Plymell
Jeremiah Burke was outstanding against the Hot Rods in his lone relief appearance. The 25 year old righty threw two innings allowing one hit and struck out four.
Chase Plymell was great for the Dash last week, throwing three scoreless frames allowing just one hit and striking out five.
Jonathan Cannon
Jonathan Cannon stymied Bowling Green in his five innings of work last week. Cannon continued his impressive run in Winston-Salem, where he’s allowed three or fewer runs in all ten of his starts this season.
Tim Elko
Tim Elko’s on a power binge and it’s great news for the Ballers. Elko homered twice last week against Lynchburg while batting .400/.464/.720 for a 1.184 OPS. Elko also scored six runs, had six RBI, and added a triple to the mix as well. After only homering three times in May with a .433 SLG%, Elko has four home runs a third of the way through June with a .732 SLG%.
JOHNABIELL LAUREANO
Johnabiell Laureano made the most of his three games last week, slashing .444/.615/.778 for a 1.393 OPS with one home run and more walks (four) than strikeouts (three).
Horacio Andujar
24 year old right hander Horacio Andujar pitched well in both of his appearances, throwing six total innings allowing no runs, one hit, walked two while striking out three.
Tyler Schweitzer
Tyler Schweitzer threw the ball rather well against the Hillcats last week, as the 22 year old lefty continues his strong run of starts in June (11.2 IP, 1.54 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 4 BB, 17 K).
Godwin Bennett
After producing a 1.083 OPS in 41 DSL games last season, Godwin Bennett came out of the gates hot for the ACL White Sox. The 20 year old outfielder slashed .357/.545/.643 for a 1.188 OPS with four runs scored, a double, a home run, more walks (five) than strikeouts (four), and went 5-for-5 on stolen bases just for good measure.
Connor Pellerin
23 year old right hander Connor Pellerin made two appearances for the ACL White Sox and was outstanding. Pellerin threw three innings allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out seven.
Abraham Nunez
17 year old Abraham Nunez had an outstanding beginning to his professional career for the DSL White Sox by slashing .500/.647/.917 for a 1.564 OPS. Nunez also scored six runs, hitting one triple, one home run, five RBI, walked five times (to two strikeouts), and went 3-for-4 on stolen bases.
Leandro Alsinois
18 year old outfielder Leandro Alsinois had a great opening week for the DSL White Sox as well, batting .462/.563/.615 for a 1.178 OPS and scoring five runs and knocking two doubles while being successful on his only stolen base attempt.
Stiven Flores
17 year old catcher Stiven Flores also had a nice beginning to his professional career, batting .455/.455/.545 for an even 1.000 OPS with a double, three RBI, and swiping a base on his only attempt.
Reudis Diaz
17 year old righty Reudis Diaz had a nice beginning to his professional career as well, making two appearances throwing four and a third innings allowing three hits, one run (unearned), walked one batter but struck out four.
There is no help coming from the minors this year for the Sox.
It must be Pedro Grifol’s fault.
I said before the season that Cannon’s development needed to focus on improving his sinker/cutter to generate a GB% over 55%. He’s at 54.9% and the arrow is trending up, which is good to see. He’s not an overpowering guy, but I think he can develop into a good back of the rotation arm who generates weak contact and double play opportunities.
One lonely Up arrow. For 2 innings.
Twas a rough week for the top 10, but those two innings were spectacular
