Trending on the Farm: Montgomery returns, Ramos and Colás obliterate baseballs

Colson Montgomery

Colson Montgomery officially returned to game action last week, and wouldn’t you know it, he was up to Colson Montgomery things. The 21 year old put his on-base skills on display, walking more (7) than he struck out (4) while also knocking three extra base hits in his first week back. Rick Hahn stated on Monday that Montgomery is expected to play in the ACL over the next two weeks, and assuming all goes well he would join an affiliate afterwards.

Noah Schultz & Peyton Pallette

Noah Schultz was slated to start on Saturday night, but was unfortunately scratched due to an illness.

After not appearing in the previous week, Peyton Pallette returned to action against Myrtle Beach and it wasn’t the sharpest outing, allowing at least one baserunner to reach in three of his four innings pitched.

Norge Vera & Sean Burke

Norge Vera once again did not make an appearance after being on the ACL roster for three weeks now.

After not appearing in the previous week, Sean Burke was placed on the injured list with an undisclosed injury (as of this writing).

Cristian Mena & Jonathan Cannon

Cristian Mena had a two start week, with the first start the more successful of the two. In his first start, Mena threw five innings while allowing three hits, three walks, one run (earned), while striking out five. The second start Mena wasn’t nearly as sharp, as he only lasted four innings due to five walks and three hits allowed, although he did strike out eight Mississippi Braves.

Jonathan Cannon’s start against Greensboro was a bit peculiar, as he allowed nearly as many baserunners (nine) as he had strikeouts (10). A two-out, three run homer in the fourth was the biggest blemish for the 22 year old righty.

Lenyn Sosa

After being on the injured list for two weeks Lenyn Sosa returned to action and was solid, playing in five of six games. Sosa also didn’t strike out in 20 at-bats, the only Knight to do so with seven or more at-bats for the week.

Bryan Ramos

Things started to click at the plate for Bryan Ramos in the previous week, but last week the 21 year old slammed his foot on the gas and torched Mississippi pitching. Ramos had four extra base hits, three of which were home runs. The Cuban third baseman was the catalyst for the Barons offense, nearly driving in as many runs (seven) as the rest of the team did for the week (nine). For good measure, Ramos also went 2-for-2 on stolen bases.

Oscar Colás

The power started creeping back up for Oscar Colás in the previous week, despite the results not being eye-catching. Last week it was a different story, as the homers came in bunches. Colás played in five of six games for the Knights and recorded at least one hit in each game, but the last two games of the series is when the power came, as all three of his hits between Saturday and Sunday left the yard.

Laz rivera & Stephen piscotty

Laz Rivera made the most of his limited reps last week, hitting three doubles across eight at-bats in his four games of action.

Stephen Piscotty had a very nice week at the plate, hitting two double and walked more (four) than he struck out (two) across four games of action.

Garrett Davila

Garrett Davila had a nice start against Louisville last week, throwing five innings of four hit baseball. The 26 year old southpaw allowed two runs (two earned) while walking one batter and striking out eight.

Matthew thompson

Matthew Thompson was simply outstanding against the Mississippi Braves last week. In four June starts, Thompson has only walked seven batters, which is a big improvement thus far from both April (16 walks, five starts) and May (15 walks, five starts).

Andy Atwood

26 year old infielder Andy Atwood was the main standout for the Dash offense against Greensboro pitching, hitting three doubles, successfully stole a base on his only attempt, and drove in six, ending the week with a 1.188 OPS across four games and 16 at-bats.

Tristan Stivors

24 year old righty Tristan Stivors was quite good across his three appearances for the Dash last week. Stivors threw two and a third innings scoreless frames, allowed one hit but struck out four Grasshopper batters and converted his lone save opportunity.

Jacob burke

22 year old outfielder Jacob Burke made his presence felt all over the diamond against Myrtle Beach. Offensively, while he didn’t necessarily rack up hits (three in five games), all went for extra bases and he ended the week with a .200/.400/.667 batting line (1.067 OPS). Burke also drove in four runs, went 2-for-2 on stolen bases, set a new on base record for the Ballers with 34 consecutive games, and is reportedly receiving a promotion to Winston-Salem.

Tim Elko

The Captain once again put his power on display for the Ballers last week. The 24 year old slashed .294/.333/.706 for a 1.039 OPS with three extra base hits (double, two home runs) while driving in five. Elko is also reportedly set to join fellow Kannapolis teammate Jacob Burke in Winston-Salem after receiving a promotion.

Tyler Schweitzer

Tyler Schweitzer had a very solid outing against Myrtle Beach. The 22 year old threw five scoreless innings, allowing three hits, one walk, and struck out three. According to the voice of the Cannon Ballers Dan Helotie, the lefty was also reaching 95-96 with his fastball.

Mason Adams

After Noah Schultz was unable to start due to an illness, Mason Adams was thrust into the starter’s role and responded quite well. The 23 year old righty threw six innings, allowed four hits, one run (earned), didn’t issue any walks, and struck out five.

Ronny Hernandez

18 year old catcher Ronny Hernandez had a nice week for the ACL White Sox, hit a home run, walked six times in four games, and ended the week with a 1.074 OPS.

Godwin bennett & ryan Burrowes

20 year old outfielder Godwin Bennett tripled and had a 1.012 OPS in four games last week, walking more (three) than he struck out (two).

Ryan Burrowes was also quite productive, as the 18 year old hit two doubles, one triple, and one home run for a .983 OPS and was successful on his only stolen base attempt.

Anderson Comás

23 year old converted outfielder Anderson Comás has been adapting quite well to his new role as a relief pitcher. The southpaw made two appearances for the ACL White Sox, throwing five scoreless innings, three hits, one walk, and struck out four.

Gabriel Rodriguez

19 year old righty Gabriel Rodriguez had a two start week for the ACL Sox, with the second start being his standout outing. Across both starts Rodriguez threw eight innings, allowed two runs (two earned) on six hits, three walks, and struck out 11.

The second start saw Rodriguez throw five scoreless innings allowing just two hits, one walk, and struck out eight batters.

leandro alsinois

18 year old outfielder Leandro Alsinois had two extra base hits (double, home run), walked three times, and scored six runs for the DSL White Sox en route to a 1.458 OPS for the week.

abraham Nunez

17 year old outfielder Abraham Nunez continued his strong start to the DSL season, with two extra base hits (double, home run) and three walks (to just one strikeout), ending the week with a 1.105 OPS.
