The Trending on the Farm series will highlight player trends from the top prospects in the White Sox system as well as any other notable performances across all affiliates.

Top of the Crop (Trending on the Farm)

NOTE: This piece will focus on players that are trending on the farm currently in the minor leagues. Bryan Ramos, Nick Nastrini and Dominic Fletcher are all omitted since they’re currently with the White Sox. The “Top of the Crop” portion was determined prior to the Dylan Cease trade, hence why Drew Thorpe, Samuel Zavala, and Jairo Iriarte are all omitted.

Jacob Gonzalez – MLB Pipeline White Sox #7

Jacob Gonzalez made his AA debut this week (along with Noah Schultz), and Gonzalez came out of the gates hot for the Barons. The 21 year old recorded a hit in every game against Biloxi and had a multi-hit effort in five of six games played.

Defensively, he split time evenly with Brooks Baldwin between shortstop and second base during this series, and Gonzalez did not look out of place at the keystone.

Noah Schultz – MLB Pipeline White Sox #2

Noah Schultz made his AA debut on Saturday in Biloxi and picked up right where he left off. Schultz was extremely efficient with his pitches, throwing 70% for strikes whilst allowing one measly single.

Grant Taylor – MLB Pipeline White Sox #13

Grant Taylor was able to build upon his first outing with the Cannon Ballers by decimating the GreenJackets. Augusta’s hitters were consistently fooled by Taylor, who threw 69% of his pitches for strikes.

Jake Eder – MLB Pipeline White Sox #10

Jake Eder had a two start week for the Barons and had strong results in each outing. In his second outing on Sunday, Eder twirled five innings of one run baseball, allowing four hits, three walks, and struck out three.

Peyton Pallette – MLB Pipeline White Sox #12

Peyton Pallette rebounded last week after some tough outings in his previous two starts. Pallette allowed just one hit (solo HR) while keeping the Hot Rods lineup in check. Pallette only threw 58% of his pitches for strikes, which is a percentage the 23 year old would like to keep building upon as the season progresses.

Jonathan Cannon – MLB Pipeline White Sox #11

Jonathan Cannon was another member of the top of the crop to have a two start week. While the first outing didn’t go particularly as planned (4 IP, 8 H, 6R [5 ER], BB, 4K), his start on Sunday was much better, throwing 66% of his pitches for strikes.

Colson Montgomery – MLB Pipeline White Sox #1

Colson Montgomery had a tough week in Nashville, never really able to get into a groove at the plate over the six game set.

George Wolkow – MLB Pipeline White Sox #14

George Wolkow only appeared in two games last week, but did manage to accumulate four hits and a walk across seven at-bats while going 1-for-2 on stolen bases.

Edgar Quero – MLB Pipeline White Sox #4

May has been a very tough month (offensively) for Edgar Quero, although he did walk more (six) than he struck out (three) last week against the Shuckers. Quero has been defending well behind the dish and throwing runners out, catching 29% of would-be base-stealers to this point.

Tanner McDougal – MLB Pipeline White Sox #18

21-year-old Tanner McDougal had to battle throughout his entire start, with Bowling Green fouling off 24 pitches across his three innings of work. McDougal threw 63% of his pitches for strikes, but wasn’t long for the game due to an elevated pitch count (82 pitches through three innings).

1 thought on “Trending on the Farm: Jacob Gonzalez and Noah Schultz debut and dominate for the Barons”

  1. I am having a hard time even watching the Sox’s condensed games on MLB Network. The Sox minor league games on MLB Network! They are fun to watch and the AA and down are doing well. I even watch AAA to see a few of the players. I am hoping after the draft, most teams move up a level and they drop the veterans in AAA. Most of the Barons pitchers and a few of their position players are ready for AAA now.
