Trending on the Farm: Edgar Quero torches Tennessee

The Trending on the Farm series will highlight player trends from the top prospects in the White Sox system as well as any other notable performances across all affiliates.

NOTE: This piece will focus on players that are trending on the farm currently in the minor leagues. Nick Nastrini, Jonathan Cannon, and Dominic Fletcher are omitted since they were with the White Sox (Fletcher has also exceeded rookie status). The “Top of the Crop” portion was determined prior to the Dylan Cease trade, hence why Drew Thorpe, Samuel Zavala, and Jairo Iriarte are all omitted.

Noah Schultz – MLB Pipeline White Sox #2

Saturday came and went and Noah Schultz was business as usual against the Tennessee Smokies. The 20-year-old allowed his first AA earned run, but crickets after that with 64% of his pitches going for strikes.

Grant Taylor – MLB Pipeline White Sox #13

Grant Taylor continues to decimate Carolina League offenses, and last weeks casualties were the Fredericksburg Nationals. Taylor threw 65% of his pitches for strikes and now has 25 strikeouts in 16 innings pitched with a 1.13 ERA and a 0.63 WHIP across four starts with Kannapolis.

Edgar Quero – MLB Pipeline White Sox #4

21-year-old Edgar Quero was scorching hot last week against the Tennessee Smokies. After a slow and quiet May, Quero has a .586/.657/1.000 slash line with a 1.657 OPS, six extra base hits (three doubles, three home runs), and more walks (five) than strikeouts (four) in 29 at-bats in June. Quero has also recorded multi-hit efforts in all 8 games played this month.

Peyton Pallette – MLB Pipeline White Sox #12

Peyton Pallette has now strung together three solid starts in a row with good results. Pallette threw 58% of his pitches for strikes, but has only allowed two earned runs over his last 13.1 innings pitched.

George Wolkow – MLB Pipeline White Sox #14

18-year-old George Wolkow debuted for the Cannon Ballers last week and nuked two of his three hits on the week for home runs.

Tanner McDougal – MLB Pipeline White Sox #18

21-year-old Tanner McDougal complied a very nice outing against Rome. McDougal threw 64% of his pitches for strikes and walked only one batter for the third time this year.

Jacob Gonzalez – MLB Pipeline White Sox #7

Jacob Gonzalez had another quiet week at the plate for the Barons in Tennessee.

Bryan Ramos – MLB Pipeline White Sox #5

Bryan Ramos connected for his first AAA home run last week and also knocked a double against Jacksonville.

Jake Eder – MLB Pipeline White Sox #10

Jake Eder hit a bit of a speedbump in his last outing against the Smokies, although he did still strikeout seven over three and two thirds innings.

Colson Montgomery – MLB Pipeline White Sox #1

Colson Montgomery had a tough week at the plate but did walk (four) as much as he struck out.

Trending on the Farm: AAA (Charlotte)

Mark Payton

32-year-old outfielder Mark Payton produced a .972 OPS over six games last week, knocking four extra base hits (three doubles, home run) and drove in six.

Wynton Bernard

33-year-old Wynton Bernard was fantastic against the Jumbo Shrimp. Playing in six games, Bernard batted .455/.455/.773 for a 1.228 OPS with four extra base hits (two doubles, triple, home run), four RBI, and went 2-for-2 on stolen bases.

Rafael Ortega

33-year-old Rafael Ortega appeared in five games last week, putting up a .977 OPS with a home run and three RBI. Ortega also was successful on his only stolen base attempt.

Touki Toussaint

27-year-old Touki Toussaint had a nice start for the Knights last week, throwing five innings allowing just one run (earned), four hits, and struck out six.

Trending on the Farm: AA (Birmingham)

Wilfred Veras – MLB Pipeline White Sox #25

21-year-old outfielder Wilfred Veras did his best to assist Edgar Quero in picking up the Barons offense last week against Tennessee. Veras had a .916 OPS with three of his five hits leaving the field of play, drove in six, and went 4-for-4 on stolen bases.

Drew Thorpe – MLB Pipeline White Sox #3

Drew Thorpe has been showing that AA is no match for him, and his outing against the Smokies only furthered that belief. The 23-year-old is now set to make his major league debut on Tuesday against the Mariners.

Ky Bush – MLB Pipeline White Sox #17

Ky Bush had a two start week for the Barons and had solid outings in each. His first featured more strikeouts (eight) and innings pitched (seven), but also saw him allow three runs (three earned). Cumulatively, Bush pitched 13 total innings, allowed five hits, four runs (three earned), walked four, and struck out 10.

Samuel Zavala – MLB Pipeline White Sox #6

19-year-old outfielder Samuel Zavala had a very strong week for the Dash in Rome. Zavala hit .353/.500/.647 for an 1.147 OPS with three extra base hits (two doubles, home run), two RBI, five walks to just one strikeout, and was 2-for-2 on stolen bases.

Riley Gowens

24-year-old Riley Gowens had a stellar outing for the Dash and now has a 3.90 ERA in 55.1 innings with a 0.94 WHIP in 10 starts for Winston-Salem.

Zach Franklin

25-year-old Zach Franklin pitched well in his lone appearance last week. Franklin threw two innings allowing one hit, one run (unearned), and struck out four.

Bryce Collins

23-year-old right hander Bryce Collins appeared in two games last week, throwing two total innings allowing one hit, one run (unearned), one walk, and struck out four.

Trending on the Farm: A (Kannapolis)

Ronny Hernandez

19-year-old catcher Ronny Hernandez had a very strong week for the Cannon Ballers against Fredericksburg. Hernandez batted .538/.667/.769 for a 1.436 OPS with one home run, four RBI, and five walks to just one strikeout in four games.

Matt Hogan

24-year-old outfielder Matt Hogan had a two homer game on Sunday while putting up a 1.154 OPS for the week in four games played. Hogan drove in seven and was also successful on his lone stolen base attempt.

Wilber Sánchez

22-year-old infielder Wilber Sánchez hit .455/.500/.727 for a 1.227 OPS in four games last week. Sánchez homered, drove in four, and was successful on his only stolen base attempt.

Luis Pineda

22-year-old catcher Luis Pineda had a 1.000 OPS in four games last week for Kannapolis, doubling twice and driving in one.

Jake Peppers

22-year-old Jake Peppers has now strung together four solid starts in a row for Kannapolis. Peppers threw 67% of his pitches for strikes and now has a 2.87 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 39 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched for the Cannon Ballers in nine starts.

Jake Bockenstedt

24-year-old Jake Bockenstedt was fantastic in his outing against the FredNats last week, throwing 62% of his pitches for strikes. Bockenstedt now has a 3.05 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 37 strikeouts in 38.1 innings over eight appearances (seven starts) for Kannapolis.

Aldrin Batista

21-year-old Aldrin Batista was another memeber of the Kannapolis rotation to have a solid outing against Fredericksburg. Batista threw 65% of his pitches for strikes and through nine starts has a 3.15 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts in 45.2 innings.

Trending on the Farm: Rookie (ACL)

Stiven Flores

18-year-old catcher Stiven Flores knocked four hits in seven at-bats last week in what was a mostly quiet week offensively for the ACL White Sox.

Jordany Chirinos

18-year-old righty Jordany Chirinos pitched well in his lone start of the week, hurling five scoreless innings allowing five hits and struck out four.

Carlos Hinestroza

21-year-old right-hander Carlos Hinestroza pitched well in his lone relief appearance, throwing two and one third scoreless innings allowing just one hit and struck out four.

Luis Reyes

18-year-old Luis Reyes had another strong start for the ACL White Sox last week. Reyes chucked four innings of one run ball allowing three hits, one walk, and struck out three.

Trending on the Farm: Rookie (DSL)

Christian Gonzalez

17-year-old outfielder Christian Gonzalez connected for four hits in seven at-bats last week for the DSL White Sox. Gonzalez also walked twice.

Jesus Premoli

17-year-old infielder Jesus Premoli knocked four hits in 11 at-bats, one going for extra bases (double), and two RBI in a rain-hampered opening week for the DSL White Sox.

Reudis Diaz

18-year-old right-hander Reudis Diaz pitched four scoreless and hitless innings in relief for the DSL White Sox with six strikeouts.

Yhoiker Fajardo

17-year-old Yhoiker Fajardo had a stellar start in the opening week of the DSL season. Fajardo pitched five scoreless innings and allowed just one hit and struck out 10.
