It was Opening Day throughout Minor League Baseball yesterday, and we have you covered on all the White Sox affiliates that were in action.
Durham 7, Charlotte 3
Knights starter Scott Carroll got roughed up in his first start, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits in just 1.1 innings of work. Catcher Kevan Smith lead the way offensively for the Knights, going 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Outfielder Jacob May went 1 for 3 and drove in two of the Knights’ runs. Carlos Sanchez and Matt Davidson both went 1 for 4 at the plate, and top prospect Tim Anderson went 1-5, and smoked a single in his first AAA at-bat off of Rays’ top prospect Blake Snell.
Erik Johnson makes his first start of the season tonight in Durham, where the Knights square off against the Bulls in game two of a four game series.
Jacksonville 6, Birmingham 1
Tyler Danish made the start for the Barons, but did not have a great outing. He surrendered six runs on eight hits over four innings, while walking two and striking out two. The bullpen did a nice job following Danish, as Robinson Leyer, Michael Ynoa, and Matt Lollis all combined to throw four scoreless innings of one hit ball. The Barons did not do much at the plate, as they only had four hits. Jake Peter led the way, going two for four with a solo home run, which you can see here.
White Sox top pitching prospect Carson Fulmer takes the mound tonight in his AA debut against the Suns in game two of a five game set.
Winston-Salem 14, Lynchburg 6 (13 innings)
The Dash put up eight runs in the 13th inning to knock off the Lynchburg Hillcats in last Knights opener, which was one shy of a single-inning record in the Dash era. Spencer Adams got the start, giving up seven hits and three runs (two runs) over four innings. He also had five strikeouts on the night. Reliever Connor Walsh ended up getting the win for the Dash, firing two scoreless innings of no-hit ball with four strikeouts. Brett Austin led the way at the plate, going two for seven with a home run and four RBIs. Nick Basto and Michael Danner each had three hits on the night as well.
The Dash return to action tonight in game two of four against the Hillcats, and righty Matt Cooper will make his first start of the season.
Hickory 5, Kannapolis 1
Luis Martinez got the start for the Intimidators, going five innings while giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits. Lead-off hitter Tyler Sullivan led the way at the plate, going two for four with a walk. Johan Cruz, Antonio Rodriguez, Zach Fish, and Danny Mendick each had one hit on the night as well. Hickory tried for a running attack on the bases, but Seby Zavala threw our 3 of their 5 attempts.
They return to action tonight in game two of four against the Crawdads, where they will face top pitching prospect and fourth overall pick in last year’s draft, Dillon Tate.
