Durham 3, Charlotte 2
Chris Beck had a nice start for the Knights, giving up one run on four hits with seven strikeouts in five innings of work. This was Beck’s first real game action since last June, and Josh Norris of Baseball America reported via Twitter that he had strong command of his fastball (which was running 88-92). Matt Purke pitched two scoreless innings of relief, giving up just one hit with three strikeouts. Phillippe Aumont got the loss, giving up two runs on two hits in one inning of work. At the plate, the Knights were only able to come away with five hits on the night. Catcher Hector Sanchez and outfielder Jacob May each had a solo home run.
The Knights return to action tonight in a final game of the four game series against the Bulls, with Jacob Turner making the start.
Birmingham 2, Jacksonville 1 (10 innings)
The Barons got their first win of the season in stunning fashion over the Suns, winning 2 to 1 in 10 innings. Jordan Guerrero made the start, giving up one run on three hits with one strikeout in four innings. The bullpen was lights out for the Barons, as Kyle Hansen, Brad Goldberg, and Matt Lollis each pitched two scoreless innings, with Lollis earning the win. At the plate, lead-off man Adam Engel went 2 for 4 with a triple and a run scored. Third baseman Trey Michalczewski also was a major contributor, going 2 for 5 with a double.
The Barons return to action this afternoon against the Suns, with David Holmberg set to make his first start of the 2016 season.
Lynchburg 7, Winston-Salem 2
Thaddius Lowry made the start for the Dash, giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits with two strikeouts over 4.1 innings of work. He had pitched 4 scoreless innings in his High-A debut before things unraveled in the 5th. At the plate, Marcus Davis and Gerson Montilla each had two hits apiece.
The Dash return to action this afternoon in the final game of the four game series versus the Hillcats, with Jordan making the start and his Dash debut.
Hickory 6, Kannapolis 1 (10 innings)
Zach Thompson made the start for the Intimidators and was quite impressive, firing five innings of one-hit ball, giving up one run while striking out eight. Yelmison Peralta was excellent in relief, as he threw two scoreless innings while giving up just one hit with one strikeout. The Intimidators only had four hits, as Landon Lassiter led the way going 1 for 3 with two walks. Corey Zangari started at first base after leaving yesterday’s campaign after being hit by a pitch in the left elbow, and he went 1 for 5 with one RBI.
The Intimidators return to action looking to take one game in the final matchup of a four game set with the Crawdads tonight.
