Erik Johnson had a nice outing for the Knights in his second start of the season, going 5.2 innings and giving up just one run on four hits with seven strikeouts. Daniel Webb also fired two hitless innings in relief with one strikeout. Not much occurred at the plate for the Knights, as they were only able to muster five hits on the night. Carlos Sanchez, Daniel Fields, and Jacob May each had a hit, while catcher Hector Sanchez led the way offensively, going 2 for 3 with a double. Tim Anderson returned to the lineup for the first time in a few days, missed due to a sore wrist.
Charlotte returns to action tonight in game two of a four game series with the Bulls, and Chris Beck is set to make his second start of the season.
Birmingham 5, Tennessee 3
Jordan Guerrero got the start for the Barons, throwing five innings and giving up three runs on four hits. He also struck out two but walked four. The bullpen was excellent, as Michael Ynoa, Kyle Hansen, and Peter Tago combined for four scoreless innings of just one-hit ball. Second baseman Joey DeMichele hit his second home run of the season, and also scored two runs. Other notable standouts offensively were right fielder Josh Richmond, who went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and left fielder Eudy Pina who went 3 for 3 with an RBI as well.
The Barons will face off with the Smokies in game four of a five get set tonight, with southpaw David Holmberg making the start.
Salem 6, Winston-Salem 5
Thaddius Lowry made his second start of the season, going 4.2 innings while giving up two runs on six hits. He struck out four and walked three as well. Danny Dopico got the loss, as he gave up four runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of work in relief of Lowry. Louie Lechich, Nick Basto, and Mason Robbins each had two hits on the night, and Robbins also had one RBI.
Game two of four between the Dash and Red Sox will take place tonight, and Jordan Stephens will make his second start of the season.
Hickory 6, Kannapolis 1
Zach Thompson started for the Intimidators, and it was not pretty. He lasted just 3.1 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits with five strikeouts. Alex Katz pitched very well in relief, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings while giving up three hits with one strikeout. At the plate, lead off man Landon Lassiter continued to stay hot, as he went 3 for 4 with a run scored. He is off to quite the start this season, hitting .565/.600/ .696 in 23 at bats. Zach Fish also had a solid game offensively, going 2 for 4 with two singles.
The Intimidators meet up with Hickory again in game two of four tonight, as they look to cool off the 7-1 Crawdads.
