Durham 6, Charlotte 4
Chris Beck made the start for the Knights, giving up four runs on ten hits with three strikeouts in six innings of work. Reliever Phillippe Aumont suffered the loss, as he gave up two runs on one hit while walking three and striking out two in 0.2 innings of work. Terance Marin was the lone bright spot on the mound, firing two scoreless innings in relief without giving up a hit. Jason Coats went 2 for 4 on the night, and also showed off his skills defensively, as he threw out two runners (one at 2b, one at 3b) from right field as well as started a double play. Carlos Sanchez went 1 for 4 with two RBIs and Matt Davidson went 1 for 4 with a solo home run, his second of the season.
The Knights return to action tonight in game three of a four game set with the Bulls, with Jacob Turner making the start.
Tennessee 4, Birmingham 2
David Holmberg start for the Barons and lasted six innings, giving up three runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Matt Lollis pitched two scoreless innings in relief without giving up a hit and striking out one. The Barons only had five hits on the night, as catcher Omar Narvaez led the way, going 2 for 3 with a RBI. Trey Michalczewski, Jake Peter, and Eudy Pina each had a hit as well.
The Barons meet the Smokies again tonight in the rubber match of a five game series, with Brandon Brennan set to start.
Salem 3, Winston-Salem 2
Jordan Stephens made his second start of the season, giving up two runs on seven hits in four innings of work. Colin Klevan followed Stephens and did a nice job, surrendering just one run and one hit with two strikeouts over three innings. Connor Walsh was another bright spot in relief, pitching two scoreless innings without giving up a hit and striking out two. At the plate, Hunter Jones was the major bright spot for the Dash, going 4 for 4 with a walk, RBI, and a run scored. He was just a home run short the cycle as well, as he had a single, two doubles, and a triple on the night. Marcus Davis also stood out, as he went 2 for 5 with two singles.
The Dash square off with the Red Sox in game three of a four game set tonight, as southpaw Blair Walters will make his second start of the season.
Kannapolis 4, Hickory 2
Tanner Banks made the start for the Intimidators, and he did not disappoint, hurling five scoreless innings on just four hits with three strikeouts. Drew Hasler earned the save, pitching two scoreless innings without giving up a hit and striking out one. Catcher Seby Zavala had a day offensively, going 3 for 5 with two doubles and an RBI. Lead off center fielder Tyler Sullivan and second baseman Danny Mendick each had two hits and an RBI on the night as well. Also worth noting, Crawdad’s left fielder LeDarious Clark tried channelling his inner Benny “the Jet” Rodriguez, as he tried stealing home, but failed in his attempt. Seldom do you hear of someone trying to steal home, and rarely at the professional level is it done successfully.
Game three of four between the Intimidators and Crawdads is tonight, and Johnathan Frebis will be on the mound to start.
