Charlotte 12, Gwinnett 2
Chris Beck turned in his best start of the season, firing seven innings while giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and three strikeouts. The bullpen was stellar in relief, as Brad Goldberg and Will Lamb each pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout a piece. The bats exploded tonight for the Knights, as they had an impressive 17 hits. J.B. Shuck was one of many offensive catalysts, as he went 3 for 5 with two doubles, four RBIs, and a run scored. Matt Davidson had a great night, going 3 for 4 with two walks and a solo home run, his fourth of the season. Jacob May went 3 for 5 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Jason Coats went 1 for 4 with a home run, his third of the season. Tim Anderson, Travis Ishikawa, and Danny Hayes chipped in as well, as they each had two hits on the night.
Jacob Turner will take the mound in the rubber match with the Braves tomorrow afternoon.
Montgomery 8, Birmingham 7
Southpaw David Holmberg struggled from the start, lasting just four innings while giving up six runs (five earned) on ten hits and two strikeouts. James Dykstra and Brian Clark were solid in relief, as they combined for three scoreless innings. Offensively, Jake Peter led the way, going 3 for 5 with three RBIs. Keenyn Walker stayed hot for the Barons, going 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Joey DeMichele went 1 for 4 and hit his third home run of the season, a three run shot in the second inning. Catcher Chris O’Dowd had a nice day at the dish as well, as he went 3 for 4 with a run scored, and Marcus Lemon also contributed, as he went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
The Barons return to action tomorrow afternoon where they will square off with the Biscuits in the final game of the five game series.
Winston-Salem 4, Salem 2 (Game 1)
Thaddius Lowry was excellent in the first game of the doubleheader with the Red Sox, as he went six innings while giving up two runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Jacob Morris earned his first save of the season, firing a scoreless seventh inning and striking out two. At the plate Gerson Montilla and Mason Robbins both went 2 for 3, while Robbins also had a RBI. Marcus Davis went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, and lead off man Hunter Jones went 1 for 3 with a solo home run, his second of the season.
Salem 8, Winston-Salem 4 (Game 2)
Jordan Stephens got the start in game two, but it was not a night to remember for the young right hander. He lasted just four innings, giving up six runs on six hits while striking out four. Danny Dopico did a nice job out of the bullpen, as he pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout. At the plate, Toby Thomas stood out, as he went 2 for 4 with two doubles, a run scored and a RBI, and Marcus Davis followed his strong offensive performance in game one by going 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Mason Robbins, Louie Lechich, Daniel Mendick, and Hunter Jones each had one hit as well.
The Dash look to even the series in the final game with the Red Sox tomorrow afternoon, as Spencer Adams will make the start.
Kannapolis 12, Lakewood 3
Southpaw Tanner Banks won again and went to 6-0 on the season, firing six innings while giving up three runs on seven hits and five strikeouts. Drew Hasler and Yelmison Peralta were lights out in relief, as they combined for three scoreless innings with one strikeout each. It a great night at the plate for the Intimidators, as eight of nine starters had at least one hit. Seby Zavala went 3 for 4 with a RBI and two runs scored, and Johan Cruz went 2 for 5 with a double, three RBIs, and a run scored. Zach Fish drove in four runs, as he went 1 for 4 with a three run home run in the bottom of the fourth, his second of the season. Antonio Rodriguez and Michael Suiter each had two hits on the night as well.
Kannapolis returns to action tomorrow afternoon in game two of four with the BlueClaws, with southpaw Johnathan Frebis set to start.
*Note: Both games between Winston-Salem and Salem were seven innings each.
