Charlotte 1, Norfolk 0
Matt Davidson and Jason Bourgeois were the catalysts in the Knights’ victory over the Tides. Bourgeois, hitting a blistering .426 at AAA, went 3-4 with a double, two stolen bases and the only run scored, which was driven in by a 1-2 Matt Davidson who also drew a walk. Danny Hayes had a double and a walk and Andy Parrino, Brett Hayes and Leury Garcia all had singles.
Meanwhile, Terance Marin threw seven innings of six hit, no-walk, three strikeout ball before Chris Beck got the hold and Tommy Kahnle the save.
Mississippi 2, Birmingham 1
Blair Walters had some tough luck as he went seven innings, struck out seven and only allowed two runs while walking away with the loss. Robinson Leyer threw to one batter in the 8th inning when the game was called due to rain.
The offense only mustered five hits – Adam Engel had an RBI triple to knock in the 2-3 Eddy Alvarez (who has seen his batting average steadily rise in the past few weeks) and Jake Peter and Trey Michalczewski each had singles.
Winston-Salem 4, Wilmington 3
Mason Robbins, now hitting .300, went 2-4 with two doubles for the Dash while Nick Basto, down from AA and hitting .338, was also 2-4 but with a run scored. Cleuluis Rondon had two singles to his name and Hunter Jones (1-4), Gerson Montilla (0-3) and Louie Lechich (1-4) all had RBIs.
Jordan Stephens walked away with the win after striking out a career-high nine batters across six shutout innings to only three hits and four walks. Manny Martinez followed up with two scoreless innings and Colin Kleven nearly gave away the game by giving away three in the ninth. Fortunately, Danny Dopico came in to save the game.
Delmarva 4, Kannapolis 3 (F/11)
Kannapolis’ bats couldn’t get much going against the Shorebirds. Grant Massey and Kyle Ruchim each went 2-5 and Tyler Sullivan notched two hits, including a triple. The latter two and Johan Cruz (who went 1-4) scored all of the runs for the team.
Zachary Thompson took the mound and struck out five over 5.1 innings and gave up three runs. Drew Hasler then pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings and Alex Katz had a scoreless pair of his own. Dylan Barrow eventually lost the game in extras, giving up the wining run.
