Great Falls and the AZL White Sox were the only teams on the farm who came away victorious. Chris Volstad turned in eight solid innings for Charlotte, while Adam Panayotovich was brilliant over 7.1 innings for Great Falls, giving up just one unearned run. Brady Conlan remains red hot, as he hit three doubles, and now has a thirteen game hit streak going. Alec Hansen also made his professional debut in Arizona, pitching two scoreless innings.
Lehigh Valley 2, Charlotte 1
Chris Volstad was terrific in his start, but suffered the hard luck loss. He went eight innings, giving up two runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts.
The Knights only had five hits on the night, and were led by Leury Garcia who had a pair of hits and the lone run scored. Jason Bourgeois, Vinny Rottino, and Louis Silverio all had one hit each, while Jerry Sands drove in the team’s only RBI on a ground out in the top of the sixth.
The Knights and Iron Pigs square off tonight in game two of a four game set. Tyler Danish will start for Charlotte.
Biloxi 11, Birmingham 6
Brandon Brennan got the start for the Barons, and struggled mightily in his four innings of work. He gave up seven runs on eight hits with three strikes outs, and he now has a 10.80 ERA over 35 innings in Double-A. The bullpen did not do their job either, as three relievers combined to give up four runs over five innings. Matt Cooper gave up a run over two innings of work, his first given up since joining the Barons last week.
At the plate, Keon Barnum and Eddy Alvarez both had two hits and a run scored, while Courtney Hawkins hit his fifth home run of the season, a two run blast. Other contributors were Trey Michalczewski and Joey DeMichele, who both had a hit and one RBI.
Carson Fulmer looks to build on his impressive start from last week tonight against the Shuckers.
Wilmington 7, Winston-Salem 4
Spencer Adams struggled over five innings, giving up five runs on eight hits with five strikeouts. Zack Burdi made his third appearance for the Dash, giving up two runs on two hits while punching out two over two innings. Euclides Leyer did a nice job in his relief appearance, pitching a hitless eighth inning while striking out one.
Offensively, Mason Robbins had two hits, including a double, while Michael Suiter had a pair of base knocks as well, including a double and one RBI. Catcher Chris O’Dowd hit a two run single for the Dash, and Nick Basto had a double, RBI, and a run scored. Telvin Nash also played a factor offensively, as he had a hit and two runs scored, and Hunter Jones hit a double, scored a run, and stole his 28th base of the season.
The Blue Rocks and Dash meet again tonight as southpaw Tanner Banks will make the start.
Hickory 7, Kannapolis 3
Johnathan Frebis started for the Intimidators, giving up seven runs (four earned) on nine hits with one strikeout over five innings. The bullpen did a great job, as Ian Hamilton pitched two scoreless innings while punching out two. He was then followed by Alex Katz, who pitched a hitless eighth and struck out one.
At the dish, Landon Lassiter had a pair of base knocks and a run scored, and K.J. Woods also had two hits, including a double and one RBI. Lead off man Tyler Sullivan hit a two run shot in the top of the sixth inning, his second of the season, while Bradley Strong had a a hit and a run scored.
The Intimidators and Crawdads will meet in game two of a four game set tonight, and Zachary Thompson will make the start.
Great Falls 5, Billings 1
Adam Panayotovich got the well deserved win for the Voyagers, as he was lights out over 7.1 innings. The Chicago native gave up one unearned run while surrendering just five hits and striking out six. Lane Hobbs came on in relief to earn his first save of the year, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings and striking out one.
At the plate, Jake Jarvis got things started early as he blasted a three run shot in the top of the first, his third of the season. Brady Conlan had a night to remember as well, as he hit three doubles, while driving in one and also scoring a run. The 26th rounder in this year’s draft currently has a 13 game hit streak going and has had at least one hit in every professional game he has played. Jameson Fisher and Alex Call both had a hit and a run scored as well.
Great Falls and Billings return to action tonight in game five of a six game home and away series.
AZL White Sox 10, AZL Indians 3
Second rounder Alec Hansen made his professional debut, as the big right-hander fired two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and striking out one. Andres Sanchez got the win for the White Sox, giving up two runs on four hits over four innings. Brandon Agar got the hold, giving up one unearned run and striking out three over two innings, while Matt Foster pitched a hitless ninth and punched out two.
The White Sox only had five hits in this game, but were still able to come up with ten runs with some help from lackluster Indians defense. Rehabbing outfielder Slade Heathcott had two hits, including a double and two RBIs, while Joel Booker and Amado Nunez both had one base knock and a RBI. Carlos Perez hit a double and scored a run, and Luis Curbelo and Maiker Feliz each walked twice and scored two runs a piece.
The White Sox and Indians will meet again tonight.
