It was a solid night for starting pitchers on the farm, as Anthony Ranaudo, Jordan Guerrero, and Christopher Comito did not surrender any runs in their respective starts. Thaddius Lowry and Max Beatty also had very nice starts, while Beatty earned his second win of the year.
Charlotte 4, Pawtucket 0
Anthony Ranaudo was brilliant over eight innings, as he gave up no runs on three hits with four strikeouts. Chris Beck followed with a hitless ninth while punching out two.
At the plate, Jacob May and Marcus Lemon both had a pair of hits and a run scored, and May also drove in one. Jason Bourgeois and Daniel Muno both had one hit and a RBI, while Jerry Sands and Slade Heathcott both had a hit and a run scored.
Charlotte and Pawtucket return to action tonight in game two of a four game set.
Biloxi 3, Birmingham 2
Jordan Guerrero was awesome in his start, as he went six innings without giving up a run and struck out five. Zack Burdi followed, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits over 1.2 innings of work. All of his outs came via strikeout, as the hard throwing righty punched out five.
Offensively, Adam Engel, Eddy Alvarez, Eudy Pina, and Joey DeMichele all had two hits each, while Engel had two runs scored and Alvarez drove in one. Courtney Hawkins also contributed, as he had a hit and one RBI.
The Barons and Shuckers square off tonight as Blair Walters will make the start.
Winston-Salem 5, Potomac 3
Thaddius Lowry had a nice start over 6.1 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out five. Ryan Riga earned his first win on the season in relief, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings, and was then followed by Yelmison Peralta, who earned his first save of the season after hurling a scoreless ninth.
Cleuluis Rondon led the way offensively for the Dash, as he had two two singles and two RBIs. Brett Austin played a major role as well, as he had one hit and two RBIs, while Marcus Davis had one base knock and a RBI. Other contributors were Nick Basto, who had a hit and two runs scored, and Telvin Nash, who scored twice on the night.
Kelvis Valerio makes the start tonight against the Nationals in the rubber match of a three game set.
Kannapolis 4, Lexington 2
Max Beatty earned his second win of the season, as he went 7.2 innings, giving up just two runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Taylore Cherry earned his seventh save of the season, pitching a hitless ninth and striking out one.
The Intimidators offense got started with Tyler Sullivan, who had a pair of hits in the lead off spot and one RBI, while Daniel Gonzalez both had two hits, one run scored, and a RBI. Grant Massey was a major contributor as well, as he had a single and drove in two, and Micker Adolfo had a double and one run scored.
Luis Martinez will start for Kannapolis tonight as they meet up with the Greensboro Grasshoppers to start a four game series.
Great Falls 2, Orem 0
Christopher Comito earned the win, as he pitched seven scoreless innings while giving up just four hits and striking out four. Jaider Rocha followed and earned the two inning save, his second on the year.
The Voyagers only had five hits on the night, but that was all they would need after the pitching staff delivered. Frank Califano and Corey Zangari both had a hit and a RBI, while Casey Schroeder and Jake Jarvis both had a base knock and one run scored. Jackson Glines also had a single on the night.
Great Falls and Orem meet again tonight, and Yosmer Solorzano will start for the Voyagers.
AZL White Sox 8, AZL Indians 5 (Game 1 – 7 Innings)
Jhoan Quijada earned his second win of the season, pitching 4.2 innings of no run ball in relief while striking out three. Aaron Bummer had a solid outing out of the pen as well, pitching a hitless sixth and striking out two.
Amado Nunez and Franklin Reyes had a solid night at the dish, as they each had a pair of hits and two RBIs. Hanleth Otano had three hits and one RBI, playing a major role in the White Sox offense. Zach Remillard, Felix Mercedes, and Ricky Mota all had one hit and a RBI, while Luis Curbelo had a double, triple, and two runs scored.
AZL Indians 7, AZL White Sox 3 (Game 2 – 7 Innings)
The pitching staff struggled in game two as a whole, but three arms out of the pen did a nice job. Brandon Agar give up an unearned run in his inning of work, while Sean Renzi and Eriberto Percel both threw a scoreless inning in relief.
At the plate, Trevin Sonnier and Hanleth Otano both had two hits, with Sonnier having one RBI as well. Ylexander Villarroel singled and had a RBI, while Michael Hickman and Maiker Feliz had one hit each on the night.
The AZL White Sox have the day off, returning to action tomorrow night against the AZL Brewers.
