Wednesday was a mixed bag on the farm, with the affiliates going 3-3 on the day. But it was a big day for the Kannapolis offense, and for an unheralded pitcher who’s been an asset for the Dash.
Charlotte 4, Gwinnett 2
Jason Coats had a perfect 3-for-3 day with a home run and a walk to lead the Knights to victory. Jake Peter‘s double was the team’s only other extra base hit. Nick Delmonico reached twice via the walk as he tries to get his sea legs under him in AAA.
Terance Marin was quite effective in his start, tossing six scoreless, allowing just three hits and a walk. Brad Goldberg threw a scoreless ninth for the save.
Kameron Loe will start on Thursday for Charlotte.
Tennessee 7, Birmingham 6 (F/10)
The Barons kept battling back and tied things up in the 8th, but fell a run short with the bases loaded in the 10th inning. Eddy Alvarez had a double, single and a walk from the leadoff spot. Courtney Hawkins hit a pair of doubles in four trips, and didn’t strike out.
Tyler Barnette got the start and did his part to keep his team in the game, throwing six innings and allowing 4 runs but only 2 of those were earned (the Barons committed 4 errors in this game).

Winston-Salem 3, Carolina 1
Tanner Banks was money for the Dash, throwing 8 innings of 1-run ball and striking out a career-high 9 and issuing no free passes. In his last two outings, Banks’ register looks like this: 15 IP, 9 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 16 K. Kyle Glaser of Baseball America was at the game, and tweeted that Banks had a 90-92 mph fastball with velocity held all the way through, in combination with a mid-80’s slider.
The Dash scored all their runs in the 4th inning. Zack Collins got back to bashing, going 3-4 with a double. Mason Robbins and Nick Basto bout had 2-hit days, with the latter’s including a double.
Thad Lowry will get the start on Thursday.
Kannapolis 8, Charleston 4
The Intimidators hit a team cycle, scored 7 runs and sent 12 batters to the plate, and that was just the 1st inning. Much fun was had, including Alex Call registering both a double and a single in that one frame. Tyler Sullivan also reached twice that inning, on a triple and a walk, as part of his 2-4 day. Micker Adolfo had three hits including his third long ball of the season, and he’s showing signs of heating up, hitting .333/.429/.500 in his last 10 games. Seby Zavala hit his 6th home run of the year, and Cody Daily had a 3-hit day as well.
Jimmy Lambert, still on limited innings, had a 2-inning start, allowing a single run. Tanner Mendonca (1.1 IP), Jack Charleston (2 IP) and Ian Hamilton (2 IP) unscored upon in relief.
Johnathan Frebis will be on the hill for Kanny next.
AZL Royals 4, AZL White Sox 0
The AZL club was shut out, but they did get some good pitching. Victor Done went 4 innings of 1-run baseball in his start, generating plenty of ground-outs (6) but only whiffing one. A trio of relievers each threw a scoreless inning, including Josh Goossen-Brown. Brown made his first game appearance since 2014 (his draft year), opening his rehab assignment as he comes back from Tommy John surgery.
There wasn’t much to write home about on offense, with he team registering just 3 hits. Amado Nunez had two of those, as he continues to hit very well in Arizona.
DSL Padres 4, DSL White Sox 0
Great Falls was off.
