The White Sox took another college pitcher with their third round pick. This time it was righty Addison Reed from San Diego State. Reed led the nation in saves a year ago with 20, but started this year.
Addison Reed throws 90-92 mph as a starter touching 94 mph at times. He combines the fastball with a plus slider that has been nasty for him and his changeup is a solid average pitch.
Reed could develop as a solid innings eater at the Major League level, though his upside is probably not much more than a #4 starter.
He moved to the rotation this year as the Aztecs’ Friday night starter (ace of the staff) and 90 strikeouts against 16 walks in 79.1 innings. He was 8-2 with a 2.50 ERA.
