At midnight Eastern, the deadline to sign draft picks passed and the Chicago White Sox made no splashes as expected. There were rumors that they had a chance to sign fourth round pick Matt Grimes or eighth round pick Josef Terry, but in the end those two players will be going to college next year.
Grimes will attend Georgia Tech and Terry will play for powerhouse Cal State Fullerton. Other notable unsigned picks include 36th rounder Ben Griset (St. Mary’s) and 40th rounder Conrad Gregor (Vanderbilt).
The most notable late round pick to sign for the White Sox was 38th rounder Brad Salgado, who signed despite a commitment to Kansas. After a professional start that mirrored Gordon Beckham’s Major League start, Salgado is 10-32 (.313) in August for Bristol.
The White Sox didn’t sign anyone in the last few days of the draft so all of the unsigned picks remained that way. See our Draft Tracker for the complete list of signed and unsigned picks. Overall, the Sox signed 35 of their 51 draft picks and will not receive compensation of any of the picks they did not agree to terms with.
