8/16/2014 Recap: Mitchell’s clutch homer wins game for Knights

Charlotte 6, Durham 5
Jared Mitchell hit a two-run go ahead home run in the 9th inning to push the Knights past the Bulls. Mitchell’s homer highlighted a big night for him, he went 3-5 with the aforemetioned homer and a double. Marcus Semien went 2-5 and catcher Miguel Gonzalez went 3-4 with two doubles.
Birmingham 6, Jackson 5
The top half of the lineup got it done for the Barons as Trayce Thompson, Chris Curley, Dan Black, and Rangel Ravelo combined to go 9-17. Curley hit a home run and Ravelo went 2-3 with a double and walk. Myles Jaye pitched eight strong innings to earn the win, only allowing two runs on four hits and no walks.
Wilmington 6, Winston-Salem 5 (10 innings)
Courtney Hawkins had a strong day, he went 2-4 with two doubles and a stolen base. Keon Barnum went 3-4 with a double and Cleuluis Rondon tripled and walked in the losing effort. J.B. Wendelken struck out nine batters over his six innings but allowed five runs to score.
Kannapolis 6, Greensboro 0
Danny Hayes went 2-4 with a double and drove in three runs which was more than enough runs for the strong Kannapolis pitching. Andre Wheeler pitched five scoreless innings, only allowing two hits and Andrew Mitchell and Matt Abramson followed to complete the shutout.
Grand Junction 5, Great Falls 3
Zach Fisher and Patrick Palmeiro hit home runs but starter Matt Ball was knocked around for five runs over four innings. Mason Robbins continues his hot hitting ways going 2-5 and reliever Jon Bengard struck out five over two scoreless innings of relief.
AZL White Sox 5, AZL Brewers 0
Kelvis Valerio struck out seven over six scoreless as the Arizona League White Sox blanked the Brewers. Rehabbing Tim Anderson went 0-2 with a walk and Antonio Rodriguez went 3-4 to give the Sox the victory.
