There was never any concern that Garrett Crochet would not sign a deal with the White Sox after being selected with the 11th pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. There was also no rush considering there is no word of a Minor League Baseball season happening in 2020.
Crochet and the White Sox inked his first professional contract, announcing the deal on Monday.
Crochet’s signing bonus of $4,547,500 matches the slot value of the 11th pick in the draft.
The White Sox had $7,764,800 in bonus pool money to spread across their five picks. Third-rounder Adisyn Coffey signed for $50,000 and fourth-rounder Kade Mechals signed for $10,000.
The White Sox now have just over $3 million left in their bonus pool. Second-round pick Jared Kelley and fifth-rounder Bailey Horn remain unsigned. Kelley is expected to take up almost all of the remaining bonus pool. Horn is expected to sign for under the slot value of $386,600, but should get a number higher than Coffey and Mechals.
Under normal circumstances, Crochet would head to an affiliate in the coming weeks and would be a candidate to move quickly through the system. However, that won’t be possible for the left-hander this season.
