Scouting Report
The White Sox selected Bush in the 33rd round out of De La Salle Collegiate Prep High School in Warren, Mich. Bush signed an above slot deal for $290,000. He had a strong commitment to Mississippi State and it was shocking to many when he announced that he’d be going pro in baseball instead.
After signing, he reported to the Arizona League. In a small sample of 14 games and 52 plate appearances, the right-handed hitter mashed to a triple slash of .442/.538/.605. He was quickly promoted Great Falls. In the Pioneer League, Bryce hit .250/.327/.385 in just over 100 trips to the plate. He struggled a bit seeing the more advanced pitching and piled up some errors at third base.
He moved to outfield in 2019. Bush played 10 games at third base for Kannapolis and racked up nine errors. The rest of the time he played right field. Bush had a .631 OPS in 67 games, but there are positives within that. He drew 27 walks in 288 plate appearances, a solid return for age and level. He also posted a .145 isolated power, which isn’t a standout number but, again, solid for age and level. His strikeout rate (31.9%) is definitely a red flag, but that was not unexpected for a 19-year-old in full season ball.
Bush is a strong athlete with a great athletic build and room to get stronger. His calling card is his bat speed and he possesses really quick hands, although his swing appears violent. White Sox decision-makers lauded his strong arm and positional flexibility.
