Scouting Report
When the White Sox signed Sanchez for $2.5M in 2019, scouts mentioned that he had an excellent glove and that he could probably play defense at the major league level immediately. In addition to the glove, Sanchez also has a strong arm and above average speed. His bat, however, needs time to develop and he takes on more of a contact/line drive approach that will likely stick with him as he develops and moves through the system.
Sanchez spent time in the DSL in 2019, where he slashed .297/.386/.441 with two home runs, 15 walks and 12 strikeouts in 29 games. Unfortunately for Sanchez, his age was already working against him when he signed. With the 2020 season being cancelled, Sanchez entered the 2021 season at 24 years old with only 29 DSL games under his belt since joining the White Sox organization.
With his age factoring in, Sanchez is likely headed for a faster track to the big leagues and could be shuffled around quite a bit in the coming years. The glove is something to be excited about with him. Marco Paddy has expressed confidence in Sanchez’s ability to become an everyday shortstop at the big league level. His defense will always make him an intriguing player, but he can take that up a notch if he’s able to show a consistent bat when playing against guys closer to his age.
