Scouting Report

Sanchez moved quickly through the system after making his US debut in 2011 with Bristol. As a 19-year-old he played just five games in the Appalachian League before moving up to Kannapolis, where he held his own (.288/.341/.345) given his age and experience level. In 2012 he announced himself as a legitimate prospect with a strong showing for Winston-Salem. He hit .315/.374/.395 for the Dash in 92 games and earned a promotion to Double-A before his 20th birthday. His stint in the Carolina League earned him a semi-surprising spot in the 2012 Futures Game.

Once in Double-A, Sanchez stayed hot and was promoted yet again before the season’s end to join Charlotte in time for the end of the regular season and the International League playoffs. In his AFL stint he posted a .299/.367/.368 line and led the league in stolen bases, garnering the attention of scouts. His breakout 2012 came from his ability to make solid contact consistently.

He has a decent walk rate, but showed almost no power (just two home runs in his first three years in the U.S.). He has played shortstop (scouting reports indicate he’s OK but not great there), and fits better at second and third. His bat profiles better at second base, where he is a good defender with solid range. Sanchez has above average speed (16 SB in each of 2013, 2014 in AAA).

Triple-A was a struggle his first time around in 2013 (.241/.293/.296), but he was one of the youngest players in the league (20/21 years old). He bounced back nicely in 2014 (.293/.349/.412, 7 HR) and saw some time in Chicago, making a case for a more permanent role in Chicago. He was a White Sox regular from 2017-2019, including winning the AL Gold Glove at second base in 2019.
