Star of the Day: Jake Sanchez was signed by the Sox last June out of the Independent Frontier League and he has dominated A ball hitters this season. Sanchez was given his first start of the season after appearing out of the bullpen and was electric, striking out ten and only giving up one hit over six innings. Sanchez now qualifies as the Sally League leader in ERA (0.00), WHIP (0.55), and AVG (.066). He is old for Kannapolis (24), but those are great numbers anywhere, especially in just his second season in the minor leagues.
Who is Hot: Former Braves top prospect Tommy Hanson pitched five hitless innings for Charlotte, striking out six and walking three. Frank Francisco struck out three over two innings of work. The former major league closer has not allowed an earned run in his two appearances. Staying with the theme of strong pitching, Chris Beck hurled six innings, striking out three and only allowing one run, four hits, and three walks. The Baron’s offense was very quiet against Chattanooga, aside from Rangel Ravelo, who had three of the Baron’s five hits. Ravelo is absolutely on fire, hitting .370/.585/.667 over his last ten games. Jeremy Dowdy has been splitting catching duties with Omar Naraez in Kannapolis, but he earned the most of his opportunity tonight, going 3-5 with a double, triple, and four runs batted in.
Who is Not: Matt Davidson is as cold as he could possibly be, hitting .083/.132/.167 with seventeen strikeouts over his past ten games. Trayce Thompson has cooled off a bit after his hot start, but the good news is he is still taking walks. Thompson has a .222/.378/.250 line over his past ten games. Mitchell Boggs allowed a home run over his two innings, he now has a 10.80 ERA over eight appearances.
