Star of Day: Frank Montas, SP
Adding on to what has been an impressive start, Montas tossed his best start of the season. After coming over from the Red Sox as somewhat of an afterthought in the Jake Peavy-Jose Iglesias-Avisail Garcia deal, Montas struggled in his 2013 campaign. This year, albeit in only four starts, Montas has been a very different pitcher. Today he carried a no hitter into the 7th inning and finished the game with 11 strikeouts over 8 frames while allowing only three base runners. This was the first time the righthander has thrown 8 innings in his career and it was perhaps the best start he has had to date. Montas may have been inspired by the fact that he was toeing up against his former teammates in the Boston Red Sox affiliate Salem. By the way of his fastball, which has been praised by the scouting community, Montas completely shut down Salem for his second straight win. Montas carries a 26/4 K/BB and a 1.54 ERA through his first 23.1 innings and remains one of the most intriguing White Sox pitching prospects.
