Tending to the Farm: Romy Gonzalez finishes strong

This series will contain weekly recaps of the performances of each minor league affiliate. Here is the final installment of the season after the twenty first week of the minor league season.

CHARLOTTE KNIGHTS Regular Season (45-75), Final Stretch (2-6)

WEEKLY RECORD: 0-3

Wrapping up their final stretch schedule, the Knights traveled to Memphis for their final series of the season. Mother nature had other plans, with rain and unplayable grounds cancelling two of the five games. In the three games that were played however, Charlotte came up short and went win-less against the Redbirds. Much like the regular season, finished the final stretch schedule in the basement of all Triple-A clubs. Charlotte finished the regular season in last place and 32 games back in the Triple-A East Southeast Division.

Although three games isn’t a lot to go on, the Charlotte offense wasn’t very good against Memphis. The Knights batters hit .206/.284/.340 for a 625 OPS, eight runs scored, 20 hits in 97 at bats, four doubles, no triples, three home runs, seven RBI, 11 walks to 24 strikeouts, one stolen base, and were caught stealing twice. Despite their poor overall record, the Knights offense for the entire season was a middle of the road performer. Final season totals for the Knights offense can be found here.

Charlotte pitching struggled mightily against the Memphis offense, ending the year on a sour note. The Redbirds destroyed Knights pitching to a 7.50 team ERA, a 1.79 WHIP, .311 Batting Average Against, 20 earned runs to 22 runs allowed, 32 hits to 24 innings pitched, 11 walks to 20 strikeouts, hit three batters, and allowed four home runs. As the season is now officially over, the Knights ended up as a bottom tier and one of the poorer pitching teams in the Triple-A East To see Charlotte’s final pitching totals for the season, click here.
