7/2/2014 Recap: Jared Mitchell parties like it's 2009

The White Sox affiliates had a wonderful day, winning five of the six games played and nearly all six if not for the Knights being nipped in extra innings. The Barons were carried by former top prospect Jared Mitchell, who had a monster day. The Dash and Intimidators won thanks to strong starts from former high school hurlers, Tyler Danish and Thad Lowry.

Star of the Day: Jared Mitchell‘s future was bright in 2009. He had just finished leading LSU to the College World Series, earning the Most Outstanding Player honor in the process. He was drafted by the White Sox in the 1st round and posted a strong .296/.417/.435 line at Kannapolis, leading many experts to put him in the top 100 prospects in baseball. However, it all came apart after a broken leg cost Mitchell the 2010 season, and in 2014 he’s a 25 year old in Double-A. But Wednesday nights game is something he can remember, as he hit two homers and two triples for the Barons to lead them to a 7-6 victory. Mitchell is hitting .333/.400/.708 since his demotion to the Barons.
Who is Hot: Matt Davidson hit two doubles and continues his hot streak. Davidson is hitting .306/.419/.722 in his past ten games and is tied for 2nd in the International League in homers at fifteen. Michael Taylor was a former top prospect in the Philadelphia and Oakland organizations who has found success with the Knights, Taylor is hitting .387/.474/.548 in his last ten games. Rangel Ravelo extended his hitting streak to 19 games, he’s having a breakout season with a .308/.398/.449 season. Jacob May had an unbelievably hot June, but the only thing he didn’t do was homer. Well in his second game in July he hit his 1st home run of the season. May is hitting .439/.477/.707 over his past ten games. Tyler Danish has struggled in Winston-Salem, but he spun a good game tonight, going 4.1 innings and only allowing one run with five strikeouts. Omar Narvaez threw out a would be base stealer last night and has thrown out five of seven attempts with the Dash, he also walked three times Wednesday. Thad Lowry pitched six innings without allowing an earned run, striking out five. 2014 draft pick Ryan Leonards is listed as a third basemen, but in his first game for the Intimidators he played shortshop and hit his first professional homer.
