The White Sox affiliates swept all the full season league games, with Charlotte, Birmingham, Winston-Salem, and Kannaplis victorious during Thursday’s games.
Charlotte 9, Scranton 5
The Knights won in a romp as Andy Wilkins and Matt Davidson tussled for the home run lead in the International League. Wilkins entered the game with sixteen home runs, one back of Davidson and former Knight Dan Johnson, but two blasts later he had the lead all to himself. However, Matt Davidson answered with his 18th in the 7th inning and now two Charlotte Knights share the honor. Marcus Semien, Jordan Danks, and Josh Phegley also went yard, giving the Knights six on the evening. Beleaguered starter Erik Johnson had his sharpest outing in recent memory, going 5.1 innings, striking out five, walking none, and allowing four late runs.
Birmingham 3, Mississippi 2
Rangel Ravelo went 3-4 with a double and Mike Recchia pitched 6.1 strong innings to lead the Barons over the Mississippi Braves. Recchia, a Crestwood, Illinois native, has continued pitching well in Birmingham since his promotion from Winston-Salem, he has a 2.85 ERA with the Barons over 11 starts.
Winston-Salem 8, Myrtle Beach 3
James Dykstra had a very impressive debut with the Dash, going 6.2 innings, striking out eight, walking none, and only allowing two earned runs over six hits. Dykstra has displayed impressive command, he has struck out 90 batters and only walked 10 on the season. Jason Coats led the offense, going 3-5 with two doubles. Courtney Hawkins had two hits and Jacob May singled, walked, and stole two bases.
Kannapolis 1, Augusta 0
Right-hander Thad Lowry was marvelous, pitching 5.1 shutout innings, only allowing one hit and striking out six. 2014 15th round pick Ben Brewster relieved Lowry and pitched three scoreless no-hit innings himself as the Intimidators pitchers dominate Augusta. Brett Austin and Jacob Morris both had two hits which was enough offense for the Intimidators to win the pitchers duel.
Ogden 7, Great Falls 2
The Voyagers knocked out 11 hits but couldn’t convert on their chances as they fell to the Ogden Raptors. Zach Fisher was perfect at the plate going 3-3 and Mason Robbins belted a home run in the contest.
AZL White Sox 4, AZL Mariners 1
Micker Adolfo and Jose Barraza homered to lead the Arizona League White Sox over the Mariners. Jose Barraza, a 19 year-old catcher, is slashing .357/.417/.548 for Arizona this season. 18 year-old shortshop Johan Cruz had his first hit stateside, he was playing in his third game for Arizona since been promoting from the Dominican League. 2013 Birmingham Barons playoff hero Chris Bassitt had his second rehab start with Arizona, pitching three scoreless innings.
