It was a very successful slate of games down on the farm as the White Sox affiliates won five of the six on Wednesday. Andy Wilkins is riding an insane hot streak and there were plenty of highlights from the lower levels from both pitchers and hitters.
Charlotte 8, Indianapolis 4
Andy Wilkins is absolutely on fire, he blasted two more home runs to give him nine bombs over his past seven games. Just last week Wilkins and Matt Davidson were tied for the International League lead in homers, Wilkins now leads the league by seven home runs. Wilkins also leads the International League in RBI’s and is hitting .477/.489/1.182 over his last ten games.
Jacksonville 9, Birmingham 4
Starter Angel Sanchez pitched for Jacksonville earlier in the season and he was welcomed rudely by his former teammates. Sanchez gave up seven runs, four earned, over four innings pitched. Rangel Ravelo and Kevan Smith singled in a rather uneventful Barons’ loss.
Winston-Salem 9, Potomac 4
The Dash offense jumped all over Potomac starter Austin Voth, who coming into the game had only given up one earned run over his last 33 innings. Courtney Hawkins and Nick Basto homered to lead the Dash to an easy victory. Tyler Danish started and pitched six innings of one run ball, despite walking three with only five hits. Jacob May walked and stole his league-leading 37th base. Omar Narvaez doubled and walked and is hitting .385/.529/.462 over his past ten games. Narvaez appears to have an excellent eye at the plate, he walked eight times and only struck out once over that span.
Kannapolis 6, Hagerstown 2
Brandon Brennan pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on one walk and three hits. Adam Engel and Danny Hayes homered, and Jacob Morris went 3-4 to lead the Intimidators to victory. Trey Michalczewski went 0-5 with three strikeouts and had an error in the field. Michalczewski is slumping badly, hitting .093/.113/.116 with 19 strikeouts and one walk over his last ten games.
Great Falls 7, Helena 4
The Voyagers pounded out 15 hits to win a rain-shortened seven inning affair over the Helena Brewers. Mason Robbins and Zach Fisher led the way, going 4-4 with a homer and 3-4 with a homer respectively. 2014 5th round draft pick Zach Thompson started the game and pitched well, going five innings and only allowing one earned run.
AZL White Sox 2, AZL Dodgers 0
The Arizona League White Sox were carried by dominant pitching as Luis Martinez and Brannon Easterling combined to blank the Dodgers. Martinez, an international signing out of Venezuela, pitched six scoreless innings, only allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out eight. The 19-year-old Martinez now has only allowed 22 hits in his 29 innings to go along with 35 strikeouts. 2014 20th round draft pick Brannon Easterling struck out six batters over his three scoreless innings and lowered his ERA to 1.20. Catcher Jose Barraza went 3-4 with a stolen base to increase his season batting average to .377.
