7/27/14 Recap – Adams on a roll

Charlotte 6, Louisville 4
The Knights won game one of their double header behind a shaky Erik Johnson, who went five innings while giving up three earned runs on eight hits, four walks and only one strikeout as his nightmare 2014 season continues. The middle infield trio of Micah JohnsonCarlos Sanchez and Marcus Semien went a combined 5-for-11 at the top of the order, with Sanchez having five RBIs, four from a grand slam as he continues to show developing power.
Louisville 5, Charlotte 0
In a makeup of their 6/27 game, the Knights had an abysmal day at the plate. The only batters who reached base were Sanchez, who went 1-3 with two Ks, Andy Wilkins who went 2-3, and Miguel Gonzalez who went 2-3. All five hits were singles.
Birmingham 6, Tennessee 5
The Barons defeated the Cubs’ AA affiliate Smokes behind the bats of some less heralded farmhands. Michael Earley went 1-4 with 3 RBIs, Kevan Smith went 1-3 with a walk, strikeout and RBI, and Chris Curley went 1-3 with the other remaining RBI. Rangel Ravelo keeps on hitting by going 2-3 with a walk and is now hitting .320 on the season.
Winston-Salem 6, Wilmington 1
It was a hit parade in for the Dash as Jacob MayCleuluis RondonKeon Barnum and Nick Basto all getting at least two hits on the day. Rondon especially is impressive as he has moved up to the 2-hole in the lineup and continues to hit better in A+ ball than A ball. James Dykstra dazzled the Blue Rocks by going eight frames, giving up five hits, one earned run while striking out eight.
Kannapolis 7, Lakewood 3
In game one of their double header,the Intimidators never had to go to the bullpen as starter Jeffrey McKenzie went seven innings strong while only allowing two ER on five Adam Engel went 1-3 with a walk and scored two runs, Danny Hayes had two RBIs and went 2-4 and Trey Michalczewski went 1-4 with a triple and an RBI.
Kannapolis 6, Lakewood 3
The Intimidators completed the double-header sweep in a makeup of the 7/21 game. Engel had 2 RBIs off of a triple, Hayes continued his impressive day with a two run home run, and Brett Austin went 2-4 with a double.
Billings 6, Great Falls 4
The Voyagers fell to the Mustangs on a day where Great Falls just simply couldn’t string together hits for RBIs. Zach Fish had an impressive day by going 3-4 with two doubles while Brian Clark was the tough luck loser in three innings pitched as he gave up 0 earned runs while striking out five and walking none.
AZL White Sox 11, AZL Mariners 2
The AZL White Sox hammered the AZL Mariners behind a spectacular start from 2nd round draft pick Spencer Adams. Adams went five innings and only allowed three hits and one run off of a homer, while striking out 8 and walking none. Adams now has 32 strike outs and only two walks on the season since signing with the White Sox and a now sub-4 ERA at 3.97. Eddy Alvarez had four RBIs after going 3-5 with a home run. Micker Adolfo went 2-4 with 2 Ks and Blair Moore went 3-4 with a double, triple and four RBIs of his own.
