It was a rough day for White Sox affiliates as they went 3-4 on Sunday, losing slug-fests and close games alike, even though Rangel Ravelo showed off his power. Tim Anderson continued to struggle in his rehab assignment in Arizona.
Durham 10, Charlotte 5
It was a rough day in Charlotte as Micah Johnson sat the game out with a tweaked left knee, though it was only a precaution. Jared Mitchell led off and went 1-4 with an RBI single, Andy Wilkins went 1-4, Michael Taylor went 1-3 with a double, walk and an RBI and Matt Davidson went 1-3 with a walk. Matt Tuiasosopo had the best night of any Knight, going 2-4 with with two RBIs. Matt Zaleski made his 74th career start (a team record) for the Knights but only went two innings, allowing four runs on five hits.
Birmingham 10, Chattanooga 5
The Barons had an inverse score of the Knights by winning their game 10-5 against the Lookouts. Trayce Thompson went 1-4 from the leadoff spot with a triple, walk and two runs scored. Dan Black went 2-4 with two RBIs while Rangel Ravelo showed some power going 2-4 with a double, home run (11), RBI and three runs scored. Jason Coats had a fine day at the plate, going 2-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Tony Bucciferro went five innings, allowing five earned runs, striking out five and (of course) walking none.
Winston-Salem 4, Wilmington 1
The Dash were able to win over the Blue Rocks on the back of Courtney Hawkins, who went 1-3 with a home run (18), walk and three RBIs. Adam Engel went 2-4 from the leadoff spot while Cleuluis Rondon went 1-4 behind him. Trey Michalczewski went 2-4. James Dykstra threw eight strong innings, allowing only six hits, one run and striking out four while walking (again, of course) none.
Greensboro 14, Kannapolis 2
The Intimidators got thrashed by the Grasshoppers on Sunday by only mustering two runs against Greensboro’s 14. Jacob Morris had an excellent game going 3-4 with a double and a homer (8) while Brett Austin went 1-4 behind him. Tyler Williams and Ryan Leonards each had two singles, with Leonards also drawing a walk. Starter Robinson Leyer was lit up for six earned runs in two innings on eight hits.
Grand Junction 11, Great Falls 9
The Voyagers lost a slug fest to the Rockies due to four errors as the teams each had 16 hits. Hunter Jones, Mason Robbins, and Zach Fish each went 2-5 with a double and an RBI. Tyler Shryock went 3-5 and Patrick Palmeiro went 3-4 with two home runs, three RBIs, a walk and four runs scored. Dane Stone started the game and allowed five runs in four innings.
AZL Cubs 3, AZL White Sox 0
The AZL Cubs took game one of a double header that saw Tim Anderson leading off for the White Sox, though the top prospect went 0-3. Jake Jarvis went 1-2 in a game that was unremarkable for the AZL White Sox offense. Lucas Shearrow went 5 innings while only allowing one run on two hits, though he did walk five and strike out four.
AZL White Sox 2, AZL Cubs 1
The AZL White Sox took game two as the offense was able to squeeze out a victory against the AZL Cubs as Kevin Swick and Johan Cruz each went 1-3 with an RBI, with Cruz hitting a home run.
