Noah Schultz
Noah Schultz continues to dice up Carolina League competition. The 20 year old southpaw displayed his excellent breaking stuff and was able to work out of a third inning jam. Trouble to start the fourth inning saw Schultz leave after allowing two baserunners and recording one out, but overall it was another strong showing.
Bryan Ramos
Bryan Ramos has continued to annihilate baseballs in the Southern League. The 21 year old had nine total hits last week, with six going for extra bases. Ramos is now up to a .900 OPS and 19 extra base hits across 49 games with the Barons this season.
Cristian Mena
Cristian Mena was excellent against the Biscuits last week, stringing together two solid starts to kick off August. The 20 year old righty limited hard contact (and free passes) against him, leading to his longest start of the season.
PEYTON PALLETTE
Peyton Pallette endured some more struggles in his latest outing. Defensive miscues (one committed by him) surely didn’t help him out, but striking out five and not issuing a walk was the silver lining to this start.
Norge Vera
In what was the longest outing of Norge Vera’s nightmare season, the fact he was able to work multiple innings was an encouraging development.
Jonathan Cannon
After hurling his best start as a Baron in the previous week, Jonathan Cannon put together another solid start against Montgomery. Cannon didn’t allow much hard contact and didn’t issue any walks while also recording seven ground outs to four flyouts.
José Rodríguez
José Rodríguez had a nice week at the plate atop the Birmingham lineup. Popeye went 3-for-3 on stolen bases in addition to smacking nine total hits (three for extra bases), although he did strike out seven times in 27 at-bats.
Lenyn Sosa
The second half slump for Lenyn Sosa rolled on last week. Sosa scuffled all week long, totaling just four hits in five games (19 at-bats).
Colson Montgomery
Colson Montgomery only appeared in three games last week, but was hit by two more pitches, running his painful AA total up to five in nine games.
Best of the Rest
AAA (CharlottE)
Xavier Fernández
Not a whole lot has gone right for the Knights in the second half, but Xavier Fernández at least provided some offense for the dismal club. Fernández had an .862 OPS with two extra base hits (double, home run) in five games.
Edgar Navarro
Right hander Edgar Navarro was a bright spot for an otherwise dreadful week for the Knights pitching staff. Navarro appeared in three games throwing three scoreless innings, didn’t allow a hit, walked one, and struck out two.
AA (birmingham)
Wilfred Veras
Wilfred Veras is a large man with a good deal of power in his bat. Veras slashed .409/.458/.682 for a 1.140 OPS with four extra base hits (three doubles, home run). The 20 year old also scored and drove in six while also going 2-for-2 on stolen bases.
Edgar Quero & Terrell Tatum
20 year old Edgar Quero had a very solid week for the Barons, producing a .429/.529/.500 line with a 1.029 OPS. Quero also had a double and five RBI in four games.
Recently turned 24 year old Terrell Tatum was another Baron that excelled on offense last week. Tatum slashed .350/.458/.550 for a 1.008 with three extra base hits (two doubles, triple) and going 2-for-2 on stolen bases.
Jonah Scolaro & Yoelvín Silven
25 year old Jonah Scolaro had another solid outing for the Barons in Montgomery. Scolaro threw two and a third scoreless innings, allowed no hits, walked one, and struck out two.
24 year old righty Yoelvín Silven had a solid appearance for the Barons, striking out every batter he faced in a scoreless inning of work.
A+ (Winston-Salem)
DJ Gladney
DJ Gladney paced the Dash offense last week, ending the series against Rome with a .956 OPS, two extra base hits (triple, home run), six RBI, and went 1-for-2 on stolen bases.
Tyler Schweitzer
22 year old southpaw Tyler Schweitzer has now strung together two consecutive fantastic starts for the Dash. So far the month of August has been kind to Schweitzer, as he’s amassed two starts, 12 innings pitched, five hits allowed, one run (earned), issued four walks, and struck out 11.
A (Kannapolis)
Jhoneiker Betancourt & Calvin Harris
23 year old Jhoneiker Betancourt had a nice series against the Down East Wood Ducks. Betancourt had a 1.169 OPS with a home run in four games (11 at-bats).
21 year old catcher Calvin Harris also had a solid week for the Ballers, producing a .909 OPS with two extra base hits (double, home run) and five driven in.
Drew McDaniel & Tanner McDougal
22 year old right hander Drew McDaniel threw the ball well in his start against Down East. McDaniel pitched six scoreless innings, allowed just two hits, one walk, and struck out five.
Tanner McDougal stymied the Wood Ducks in his start last week. The 20 year old righty pitched four scoreless innings, issuing just one walk while striking out four.
ROOKIE (ACL & DSL)
Edrick Felix
21 year old infielder Edrick Felix led the charge for the ACL White Sox offense last week. The 2023 14th round pick posted a 1.238 OPS over 10 at-bats with a home run and three driven in.
Chase Krogman
22 year old converted outfielder Chase Krogman threw the ball extremely well in both of his appearances for the ACL Sox. In two scoreless innings, the southpaw didn’t allow any hits nor walks while striking out five and earning one save.
Adrian Gil & Javier Mogollon
Another week, another fantastic line produced by Adrian Gil. The 17 year old infielder produced a 1.115 OPS in 13 at-bats with a home run, three RBI, and went 1-for-1 on stolen bases.
17 year old infielder Javier Mogollon paced the DSL White Sox last week, slashing .357/.500/.857 for a 1.357 OPS. Mogollon had three extra base hits (double, two home runs), four RBI, and went 2-for-2 on stolen bases in four games.
Marcelo Alcala & Luis Reyes
17 year old outfielder Marcelo Alcala had another strong week for the DSL White Sox. Alcala had a 1.261 OPS with a double and four driven in across four games.
17 year old right hander Luis Reyes continued his strong run last week. In his lone appearance, Reyes pitched four scoreless innings allowing no hits, two walks, and struck out five. The top pitcher in the White Sox 2023 international class has now recorded 15 straight scoreless innings.
Oscar Hernandez
17 year old righty Oscar Hernandez pitched well in his only appearance last week for the DSL White Sox. Hernandez three three scoreless innings, allowing two hits, one walk, and struck out six.
Luis Rodriguez
19 year old right hander was excellent in both of his appearances last week. Rodriguez pitched seven innings, allowed four hits, two runs (one earned), didn’t issue a walk, and struck out 10.
I can’t have enough of this report style. Looking at Norge Vera in the ACL. Is he still deemed to be a prospect?
Technically yes, but his stock has drastically fallen IMO
He is 23 already. What’s the average age in ACL? Teenagers?
He is “rehabbing”. Both his body, and his “prospect status”.
Like Wayne mentioned, it’s a “rehab assignment” after being on the 60-day IL for most of the season, but avg age of hitters in the ACL is 19.8 & pitchers is 21.3, so he’s a bit older. I imagine once he’s “ready” he’ll return to Winston where he’ll be age appropriate, but I don’t see how he can be thought of as a starter anymore due to the lack of an innings base in his professional career.
It’s stupefying why Ramos isn’t up. The kid’s hot so create the timing for the best chance of success.
I believe this is new – MLB’s updated ranking of farm systems puts Sox at #20

That seems more realistic than the 12th that someone else was indicating.
